SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 111
BY SENATORS HEWITT, DONAHUE AND MIZELL
COMMENDATIONS. Commends Leadership Northshore and welcomes the 2019 class to
the state capitol.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Leadership Northshore and welcome the 2019 class to the state capitol.
3 WHEREAS, Leadership Northshore is an innovative program designed to prepare
4 individuals and emerging leaders for leadership positions in local government, business, and
5 community affairs; and
6 WHEREAS, it is an issue-oriented leadership development program that informs,
7 motivates, and increases the awareness of selected participants through seminars and
8 interaction with community decision makers; and
9 WHEREAS, the purpose of Leadership Northshore is to provide a forum for, and
10 increase the awareness of, potential leaders by giving them an intense course which
11 encompasses a broad scope of community concerns while providing leadership and effective
12 communication skills; and
13 WHEREAS, Leadership Northshore graduated its first class in 1991 and since that
14 time more than five hundred fifty students have completed the program, and as St. Tammany
15 Parish grows and the community becomes more complex and demanding, there is an
16 increasing need to train responsible and informed leaders; and
17 WHEREAS, in addition to learning specific leadership skills and gaining a broad
18 exposure to the community, participants also meet peers in other fields and form contacts

1 which will benefit their volunteer and professional activities; and
2 WHEREAS, participants provide qualified and trained leadership for public and
3 private agencies, organizations, planning bodies, and commissions, motivate and encourage
4 participants to assume leadership roles in community affairs, and work to broaden the
5 volunteer leadership base; and
6 WHEREAS, they also develop a sense of community leadership by exploring the
7 concept of leadership, helping participants identify their own leadership style, and
8 introducing participants to leadership techniques; and
9 WHEREAS, the objectives of Leadership Northshore include developing a renewed
10 sense of enthusiasm and "can do" attitude in the community, identifying and selecting highly
11 motivated, emerging, or existing leaders in business, government, and the community, to
12 participate in the program, and systematically educating and challenging the participants as
13 to the needs and opportunities of the community and the dynamics of social and economic
14 change; and
15 WHEREAS, other objectives include developing an esprit de corps among
16 participants to provide a common ground for working together on present and future
17 community projects, creating a dialogue and rapport between the participants and existing
18 community leadership, and stimulating an increased level of commitment and participation
19 in the community; and
20 WHEREAS, class projects for 2019 included "Never Alone", a suicide awareness
21 campaign; "Let it Grow", a vegetable garden at the Boys and Girls Club of Slidell; and
22 "Food 4 Kids St. Tammany", a project dedicated to reducing childhood hunger for school
23 age children on the weekends and throughout the year; and
24 WHEREAS, Leadership Northshore has earned a deserved reputation as an
25 exceptional program, as a community inspiration earning the area a reputation for both
26 innovation and strong leadership, and as a program that has trained both leaders and
27 innovators, while maintaining the essential aspects of values and culture that, in Louisiana,
28 result in a culture and lifestyle that looks to the future while it clings to much of its rich
29 cultural diversity.
30 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana

1 does hereby commend Leadership Northshore and welcome the members of the 2019 class
2 of future leaders to the Louisiana state capitol.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
4 Leadership Northshore.
