Commends the Peabody Magnet High School girls powerlifting team on winning the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA Division III State championship 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend the Peabody Magnet High School Lady Warhorses girls powerlifting team on 3 winning the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA Division III State Championship. 4 WHEREAS, the Peabody Magnet High School girls powerlifting team has 5 distinguished itself from other championship teams as among the best of all time as they 6 repeated as LHSAA Division III state champions; and 7 WHEREAS, over seventy young ladies aspired to be a part of the winning program 8 but the number was narrowed to approximately forty students, composed of winning 9 individuals who were required to be disciplined and to have and maintain a 3.0 grade point 10 average throughout the school year; and 11 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence 12 throughout the 2019 season and at the state meet, and each of these great Lady Warhorses 13 deserves recognition for her vital contribution to the winning effort; and 14 WHEREAS, among team members who earned and accepted the honor to compete 15 at regionals and state and brought home the state title include: 16 Junior Chasity Jones (123 weight class) coming in first place breaking the 17 Louisiana squat record (335), 3A squat record, 3A deadlift record, and the 3A total 18 record; Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 119 SLS 19RS-1437 ORIGINAL 1 Senior Trystian Eli (132 weight class) coming in first place; 2 Senior Alexis Venson (148 weight class) coming in first place and breaking 3 the 3A squat record; 4 Junior Dey'Shalund Eggins (165 weight class) coming in first place and tied 5 the 3A squat record; 6 Senior Taiana Caldwell (198 weight class) coming in first place and breaking 7 the Louisiana squat record (460), 3A squat record, 3A bench record, and the 3A total 8 record; 9 Junior Valerie Smith (220 weight class) coming in fifth place; 10 Junior Kai Kirk (220+ weight class) coming in third place; and 11 Senior Samauria Brooks (220+ weight class) coming in first place and 12 breaking the 3A deadlift record; and 13 WHEREAS, two of the girls were named the outstanding lifter of their class -- 14 Chasity Jones (97-148 weight class) and Samauria Brooks (165-220+ weight class); and 15 WHEREAS, even with its challenges the team secured the championship, something 16 that the team members had worked very hard for, repeating as Division III state champions; 17 and 18 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved 19 without the guidance and skills of Coach Jesse Esters, as well as all of the other individuals 20 who have contributed to the success of the school's powerlifting program; and 21 WHEREAS, the achievements of the athletes who comprise the Peabody Magnet 22 High School girls powerlifting team are notable and worthy of recognition, and the team has 23 brought immense pride and distinguished honor to the school, community, and state. 24 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 25 does hereby commend the Peabody Magnet School Lady Warhorses powerlifting team upon 26 winning the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl Division III state powerlifting championship and does 27 hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with the 28 powerlifting program as they celebrate their exceptional season and their repeat state 29 championship as well as prepare for continued success in the future. 30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 119 SLS 19RS-1437 ORIGINAL 1 Coach Jesse Esters.
