SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12
BY SENATORS ALLAIN AND CHABERT
COMMENDATIONS. Commends and congratulates Nicholls State University student,
Jonathan Bergeron, on outstanding academic achievements.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate Nicholls State University student, Jonathan Bergeron, on his
3 outstanding academic achievements.
4 WHEREAS, Jonathan Bergeron is a senior at Nicholls State University; and
5 WHEREAS, he will graduate from the Honors Program in May of 2019, with a
6 Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry; and
7 WHEREAS, Jonathan is a proud native of Chauvin, Louisiana, and graduate of South
8 Terrebonne High School; and
9 WHEREAS, he recently achieved an overall score in the ninety-ninth percentile on
10 the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), and scored in the one-hundredth percentile
11 on the chemistry portion of the MCAT; and
12 WHEREAS, Jonathan distinguished himself by maintaining a perfect grade point
13 average in Nicholls' challenging Chemistry curriculum, while also pursuing mentored
14 research, such as synthesizing new chemical compounds; and
15 WHEREAS, his mentor, Professor Uttam Pokharel, said that Jonathan is the best
16 organic chemistry student he has encountered in more than a decade; and
17 WHEREAS, Jonathan authored an honors thesis entitled "Synthesis of
18 Organo-Metallic Polyacenes"; and

1 WHEREAS, he is active in several honors organizations including Phi Kappa Phi,
2 Phi Eta Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta, and the American Chemical Society; and
3 WHEREAS, Jonathan volunteers at an assisted living facility expressing compassion
4 and concern for the elderly as he plans and conducts activities for the residents; and
5 WHEREAS, Jonathan plans to attend the Louisiana State University Health Science
6 Center School of Medicine in New Orleans after graduation.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
8 does hereby commend and congratulate Nicholls State University student, Jonathan
9 Bergeron, on his outstanding academic achievements.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
11 Jonathan Bergeron and Dr. Jay Clune, president of Nicholls State University.
