SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 120

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Designates Tuesday, May 7, 2019, as Hospital Day at
the Louisiana State Capitol.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To designate Tuesday, May 7, 2019, as "Hospital Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol.
3 WHEREAS, Hospital Day is a celebration which serves as a reminder that hospitals
4 in Louisiana are cornerstones of the communities in which they serve and that they serve
5 people from all walks of life; and
6 WHEREAS, Hospital Day celebrates hospitals and the men and women who support
7 the health of their communities through dedication and compassionate care; and
8 WHEREAS, the theme for Hospital Day this year is "Louisiana Hospitals: Caring is
9 Our Calling"; and
10 WHEREAS, hospitals and healthcare systems in Louisiana play an integral role in
11 providing vital healthcare services to all residents of Louisiana, twenty-four hours a day,
12 seven days a week, and three hundred sixty-five days a year, through acute care and
13 specialty hospitals services; and
14 WHEREAS, hospitals today are multi-dimensional environments that offer every
15 medical specialty, and also focus on population health, prevention, and wellness; and
16 WHEREAS, in addition to providing critical healthcare services, Louisiana hospitals
17 and healthcare systems are also economic drivers in the state, directly employing more than
18 one hundred four thousand people with an annual payroll of nearly twelve billion dollars and

1 contributing more than thirty-one billion dollars to the state economy overall through
2 creating and supporting more than one hundred fifty thousand additional jobs statewide in
3 industries such as construction and retail; and
4 WHEREAS, whether in urban or rural communities, Louisiana hospitals and
5 healthcare systems proactively work to improve health outcomes, quality of care, safety, and
6 satisfaction of their patients and communities; and
7 WHEREAS, Louisiana hospitals and healthcare systems provide comprehensive care
8 for every medical need at every stage of life.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
10 does hereby designate Tuesday, May 7, 2019, as "Hospital Day" at the Louisiana State
11 Capitol.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
13 president of the Louisiana Hospital Association.
