2019 Regular Session
SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 129
BY SENATOR MORRELL
SENATE. Commends the Johnson & Johnson Global Pro Bono Program, and particularly
their current Community Impact Team efforts in New Orleans.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Johnson & Johnson Global Pro Bono Program, part of their Talent for
3 Good Program, operating in New Orleans, Louisiana, and its focus on healthcare
4 while in the city this spring.
5 WHEREAS, Johnson & Johnson maintains an active program involving paid time
6 off (PTO) which pairs employees with nonprofits where the skills of the employee are
7 matched with a skill set needed around the world; and
8 WHEREAS, the Johnson & Johnson Global Pro Bono Program collaborates with
9 PYXERA Global, an international organization that has leveraged the unique strengths of
10 corporations, governments, and social sector organizations to solve complex problems and
11 to attain mutually beneficial goals, such that both the community and the volunteers reap
12 benefits; and
13 WHEREAS, the program in New Orleans is only the third launched worldwide by
14 Johnson & Johnson and will partner with the city of New Orleans, CrescentCare, Priority
15 Health Care, and SBP (an organization formed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to assist
16 the people of St. Bernard Parish, whose entire parish was deemed "uninhabitable" following
17 the storm); and
18 WHEREAS, the team will work with CrescentCare to align key initiatives with the

1 strategic vision of the organization for maximum community impact; and
2 WHEREAS, Priority Health Care will collaborate with participants to create strong
3 marketing strategy in order to support customer acquisition of healthcare services; and
4 WHEREAS, employee participants will use their expertise to partner with the city
5 of New Orleans to identify effective and efficient processes to improve operations; and
6 WHEREAS, part of the cohort of employees of Johnson & Johnson will work with
7 SBP to develop a performance management program that will result in better hires, improved
8 training, and retention of a diverse workforce; and
9 WHEREAS, the program is designed to produce positive impact in three ways, and
10 for participants it is an unparalleled global leadership development opportunity; for
11 nonprofits and governments they gain expertise, through consulting that would otherwise be
12 unavailable; and for the companies that participate, they gain insight into new markets, and
13 developing authentic reputations by highlighting their commitment to a positive corporate
14 social responsibility; and
15 WHEREAS, Johnson & Johnson Global Community Impact Team works with
16 Johnson & Johnson Associates around the globe to apply their hearts, skills, and ingenuity
17 to make a sustainable difference in the lives of others; and
18 WHEREAS, the work of volunteers and nonprofit organizations have been
19 instrumental in rebuilding and reenergizing New Orleans and its surrounding areas since the
20 horrendous devastation of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath; and
21 WHEREAS, with areas of the city still recovering and a healthcare system that was
22 virtually shut down for several months, access to excellent healthcare was largely
23 inaccessible and largely without resources to properly care for the city's inhabitants; and
24 WHEREAS, today, many of the post-Katrina obstacles have been dealt with and
25 accessible healthcare has returned for many in the New Orleans area, but pockets of
26 inaccessibility remain, and the employees of Johnson & Johnson will be tackling a wide
27 range of the most intractable healthcare issues in the city.
28 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
29 does hereby commend the Johnson & Johnson Global Pro Bono Program, part of their Talent
