SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 153

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Designates the week of May 19 through May 25, 2019,
as Emergency Medical Services Week at the state capitol.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To designate the week of May 19 through 25 as Emergency Medical Services Week at the
3 Louisiana State Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians has
5 designated the week of May 19 through May 25 as Emergency Medical Services Week,
6 nationally, and has selected, as a theme for the week, "EMS Strong: Beyond the Call;" and
7 WHEREAS, emergency medical services are a vital public service and the members
8 of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need
9 twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and
10 WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival
11 and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
12 WHEREAS, emergency medical services have grown to fill a gap by providing
13 important, out-of-hospital care, including preventive medicine, follow-up care, and access
14 to telemedicine; and
15 WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of first responders,
16 emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters,
17 police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency
18 physicians, trained members of the public, and other out-of-hospital medical care providers;

2 WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or
3 volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to
4 enhance and ensure their lifesaving skills; and
5 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of
6 emergency medical services providers by designating the week of May 19 through May 25
7 as Emergency Medical Services Week at the Louisiana State Capitol.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
9 does hereby designate the week of May 19 through May 25 as Emergency Medical Services
10 Week in the Louisiana State Capitol.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
12 Frances Kosak, Legislative Liaison, Louisiana Association of Nationally Registered
13 Emergency Medical Technicians.
