SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 157

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Ascension Episcopal High School Blue Gators boys
golf team on winning the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Division III Boys Golf State
Championship.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Ascension Episcopal High School Blue Gators boys golf team on winning
3 the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Division III Boys Golf State Championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Ascension Episcopal High School Blue Gators boys golf team from
5 Youngsville, Louisiana, defended its 2018 title for the second consecutive year and won the
6 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Division III Boys Golf State Championship on Tuesday,
7 April 30, 2019, at The Wetlands in Lafayette; and
8 WHEREAS, winning the state championship was the culmination of another
9 unforgettable season; and
10 WHEREAS, Head Coach John Mendell and all the members of the 2018-2019 team
11 performed at a high level of excellence throughout the entire season, and each of these
12 athletes and their head coach deserves special recognition; and
13 WHEREAS, the distinguished team of champions was led by Eli Ortego, a
14 sophomore, who eagled the par-five 14th hole to take the individual lead and parred the rest
15 of the way to claim the Division III boys individual title for the second straight year and to
16 lead his Ascension Episcopal boys golf team, composed of sophomore, Jude Ardoin,
17 freshmen, Canon Clark and Bryce Sutterfield, and eighth-grader, Jay Mendell, to its second
18 straight team championship; and

1 WHEREAS, the alumni and fans of Ascension Episcopal High School recognize the
2 immense pride and distinguished honor the boys golf team brings to its school, community,
3 and state.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
5 does hereby commend and congratulate the Ascension Episcopal High School Blue Gators
6 boys golf team upon winning the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Division III Boys Golf
7 State Championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, its coach, and to all
8 who are involved in the school's athletic program as they celebrate their exceptional season
9 and prepare for continued growth and success in the future.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
11 Ascension Episcopal High School Blue Gators boys golf team and to Head Coach
12 John Mendell.
