Expresses condolences upon the death of Sergeant Matthew Roberts. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Louisiana Army National Guard Sergeant Matthew Allen Roberts while in 4 the service of his country. 5 WHEREAS, it is with deepest regret and profound sorrow that the Senate has learned 6 of the tragic death of Sergeant Matthew Allen Roberts; and 7 WHEREAS, Sergeant Roberts was a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a 8 graduate of Woodlawn High School; and 9 WHEREAS, he enlisted in the military and was a member of the Louisiana National 10 Guard's Company C, 1088th Engineer Battalion, 256th Infantry Brigade, where he served 11 with courage and dedication; and 12 WHEREAS, while Sergeant Roberts loved his parents, siblings, and many family 13 members and friends, he also loved his country, displaying a total dedication to this nation 14 at a time when enemies around the world had sworn to harm America and extinguish the 15 bright light of freedom that America carries in a dark, dangerous, and threatening world; and 16 WHEREAS, Sergeant Roberts served his state and country with bravery while 17 deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and 18 WHEREAS, Sergeant Roberts was thirty years old when he tragically and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 162 SLS 19RS-2050 ORIGINAL 1 unexpectedly passed away November 28, 2005, at Fort Sill United States Army Base in 2 Oklahoma; and 3 WHEREAS, the loss of Sergeant Roberts was almost more than his family and 4 friends could endure, their ultimate sacrifice for their country made citizens from around 5 Louisiana rally in support of the National Guard's gallant efforts in the war on terror and the 6 liberation of Iraq; and 7 WHEREAS, Sergeant Roberts will forever be remembered by his family, friends, and 8 fellow soldiers as a truly dedicated leader; his sacrifice serves as a reminder that freedom is 9 never free, and Americans sometimes must fight to protect the precious liberties its citizens 10 now enjoy. 11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 12 does hereby extend its most sincere and profound condolences to the family of Louisiana 13 Army National Guard Sergeant Matthew Allen Roberts for their immeasurable loss and for 14 his brave service in the global war on terrorism. 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 16 family of Sergeant Matthew Allen Roberts.
