Commends the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women and welcomes its members to the Louisiana State Capitol on May 22, 2019, in celebration of Women in Blue Day. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women and welcome its members to 3 the Louisiana State Capitol on May 22, 2019, in celebration of Women in Blue Day. 4 WHEREAS, the National Federation of Democratic Women was formed in October, 5 1971, when twenty-seven women gathered at breakfast during the Democratic Women's 6 Leadership Conference at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, D.C.; and 7 WHEREAS, from 1972 to 1977, the organization gained recognition from the 8 Democratic National Committee as the official women's organization and received a seat on 9 the Democratic National Committee Executive Committee and three seats on the Democratic 10 National Committee (DNC); and 11 WHEREAS, the objective of the National Federation of Democratic Women is to 12 unite women of the Democratic Party, promote the cause of the Democratic Party, and 13 encourage full participation of women at every level of its structure; and 14 WHEREAS, in November 2017, twelve women from across Louisiana traveled to 15 Little Rock, Arkansas, to participate as guests at the Southern Regional Meeting of the 16 National Federation of Democratic Women; and 17 WHEREAS, they were welcomed by women from other southern states and became 18 interested in chartering a Louisiana affiliate; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 169 SLS 19RS-2205 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, after meeting with leadership in Arkansas, the first organizational 2 meeting was held in December 2017 in Pineville, Louisiana, where thirty-six women from 3 across Louisiana heeded the call to form a statewide leadership organization; and 4 WHEREAS, officers were elected and bylaws were drafted, and in February 2018, 5 they named the organization the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women and submitted 6 its bylaws to the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee (DSCC); and 7 WHEREAS, in March, 2018, the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women was 8 formally recognized by resolution by the DSCC and granted full voting privileges with the 9 National Federation of Democratic Women; and 10 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women (LFDW) is an 11 organization dedicated to empowering Democratic Party women across the state of 12 Louisiana and promoting the views and values of the Democratic Party; and 13 WHEREAS, LFDW is rechartering women's groups across Louisiana to affiliate with 14 the National Federation of Democratic Women; and 15 WHEREAS, on May 22, 2019, members of the Louisiana Federation of Democratic 16 Women will be visiting the state capitol in recognition of Women in Blue Day, an event 17 taking place across the United States in support of the Democratic Party. 18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 19 does hereby commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women for its dedication to 20 empowering Democratic Party women across Louisiana and promoting the views and values 21 of the Democratic Party, and does hereby welcome its members to the Louisiana State 22 Capitol on May 22, 2019, in celebration of Women in Blue Day. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 24 Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women..
