2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 169 BY SENATOR BARROW A RESOLUTION To commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women and welcome its members to the Louisiana State Capitol on May 22, 2019, in celebration of Women in Blue Day. WHEREAS, the National Federation of Democratic Women was formed in October, 1971, when twenty-seven women gathered at breakfast during the Democratic Women's Leadership Conference at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, from 1972 to 1977, the organization gained recognition from the Democratic National Committee as the official women's organization and received a seat on the Democratic National Committee Executive Committee and three seats on the Democratic National Committee (DNC); and WHEREAS, the objective of the National Federation of Democratic Women is to unite women of the Democratic Party, promote the cause of the Democratic Party, and encourage full participation of women at every level of its structure; and WHEREAS, in November 2017, twelve women from across Louisiana traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas, to participate as guests at the Southern Regional Meeting of the National Federation of Democratic Women; and WHEREAS, they were welcomed by women from other southern states and became interested in chartering a Louisiana affiliate; and WHEREAS, after meeting with leadership in Arkansas, the first organizational meeting was held in December 2017 in Pineville, Louisiana, where thirty-six women from across Louisiana heeded the call to form a statewide leadership organization; and WHEREAS, officers were elected and bylaws were drafted, and in February 2018, they named the organization the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women and submitted its bylaws to the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee (DSCC); and WHEREAS, in March, 2018, the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women was formally recognized by resolution by the DSCC and granted full voting privileges with the National Federation of Democratic Women; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 169 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women (LFDW) is an organization dedicated to empowering Democratic Party women across the state of Louisiana and promoting the views and values of the Democratic Party; and WHEREAS, LFDW is rechartering women's groups across Louisiana to affiliate with the National Federation of Democratic Women; and WHEREAS, on May 22, 2019, members of the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women will be visiting the state capitol in recognition of Women in Blue Day, an event taking place across the United States in support of the Democratic Party. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women for its dedication to empowering Democratic Party women across Louisiana and promoting the views and values of the Democratic Party, and does hereby welcome its members to the Louisiana State Capitol on May 22, 2019, in celebration of Women in Blue Day.
