SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 186

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Michael A. Walsworth on 24 years of distinguished
public service in the Legislature of Louisiana.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Honorable Michael A. Walsworth on twenty-four years of distinguished
3 public service in the Legislature of Louisiana and to express enduring gratitude for
4 his outstanding contributions made on behalf of the constituents of the parishes of
5 Ouachita, Claiborne, Lincoln, Morehouse, Union, and West Carroll and the state of
6 Louisiana, particularly his tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana State
7 Senate representing District No. 33 and the Louisiana House of Representatives
8 representing District No. 15.
9 WHEREAS, Michael A. Walsworth is a public servant whose excellence as a state
10 legislator has merited his consistent reelection to office since 1995, during which time he has
11 fully used every opportunity to serve the citizens of his district and the state in an honorable
12 and dedicated manner; and
13 WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Northeast Louisiana, Senator Walsworth is a
14 graduate of West Monroe High School and Northeast Louisiana University; and
15 WHEREAS, a former warehouse manager for the Ouachita Coca-Cola Bottling
16 Company and currently self-employed in real estate interests, Senator Walsworth has been
17 a proud member of the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation and the Louisiana Rural
18 Caucus; and

1 WHEREAS, Senator Walsworth is known for his broad smile, even-tempered
2 approach to legislating, and expert skills on the basketball court during the HoopLa charity
3 basketball tournament; and
4 WHEREAS, from 1996 until 2008, Michael A. Walsworth represented District No.
5 15 in the Louisiana House of Representatives and served with great diligence as vice
6 chairman of the House Committee on Civil Law and Procedure and as a member of the
7 House Committee on Commerce, the House Committee on House and Governmental
8 Affairs, the House Committee on Insurance, the House Committee on Judiciary, and the
9 House Committee on Retirement; and
10 WHEREAS, since 2008, Michael A. Walsworth has represented District No. 33 in
11 the Louisiana Senate and garnered committee assignments as chairman of the Environmental
12 Quality Committee, chairman of the Legislative Audit Advisory Council, vice chairman of
13 the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee, vice chairman of the Senate Committee
14 on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development, and as a member of the
15 Senate Select Committee on Homeland Security, Senate Committee on Education, Senate
16 Committee on Finance, Senate Committee on Insurance, Senate Committee on Labor and
17 Industrial Relations, Legislative Budgetary Control Council, and the Joint Legislative
18 Committee on the Budget; and
19 WHEREAS, during his time in the legislature, Senator Walsworth has worked on
20 many important pieces of legislation, including legislation related to business issues, teacher
21 pay raises, councils on aging, homeland security and emergency preparedness,
22 environmental issues, Louisiana's public schools, community and technical colleges, early
23 childhood learning centers, and a broad range of issues affecting his district in Northeast
24 Louisiana; and
25 WHEREAS, Senator Walsworth has been the deserving recipient of copious honors
26 and awards throughout the course of his exemplary career that are too numerous to count,
27 including the Louisiana Family Forum Life and Liberty Award and Outstanding Family
28 Advocate Award, the Legislator Leadership Award, and the Louisiana Academy of Family
29 Physicians Legislator of the Year; however, his greatest accomplishments have been
30 championing legislation and making a positive impact in the lives of so many citizens of the

1 state; and
2 WHEREAS, his professional, civic, and philanthropic affiliations have included the
3 American Heart Association, the Greater Ouachita Lions Club, the West Ouachita Chamber
4 of Commerce, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Ouachita, Leadership
5 Louisiana, the Civitan Club, Ducks Unlimited, the United Way, and the National Rifle
6 Association; and
7 WHEREAS, Senator Walsworth is an active member of the Jackson Street Church
8 of Christ, where he serves as a song leader; and
9 WHEREAS, Senator Walsworth celebrates his long career in public service with his
10 daughter Lindsay, son Corbin, and three grandchildren Connor, Oliver, and Rachel; and
11 WHEREAS, as he prepares to begin the next exciting and productive chapter of his
12 life, Senator Walsworth merits a sincere measure of commendation for his singular
13 contributions and the exemplary strides he has taken as an exceptional member of the
14 Legislature of Louisiana.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
16 hereby commends the Honorable Michael A. Walsworth for twenty-four years of invaluable
17 public service in the Legislature of Louisiana and expresses enduring gratitude for his
18 outstanding contributions made on behalf of the constituents of the parishes of Ouachita,
19 Claiborne, Lincoln, Morehouse, Union, and West Carroll, and the state of Louisiana,
20 particularly his tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana State Senate representing
21 District No. 33 and the Louisiana House of Representatives representing District No. 15.
22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
23 hereby expresses enduring gratitude to Senator Walsworth for his service to the citizens of
24 Louisiana, as evidenced by his superlative achievements as a member of this distinguished
25 body, and hereby extends to him the best wishes of all of his colleagues for continued
26 prosperity and success in his future endeavors.
27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
28 Honorable Michael A. Walsworth of Louisiana Senatorial District 33.
