Expresses condolences upon the death of Jacobi Scott. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of 3 Louisiana upon the death of Jacobi Brishard Scott. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and a profound sense of sorrow that the citizens 5 and the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the sudden and tragic death 6 of Jacobi Scott on May 8, 2019, at the young age of twenty; and 7 WHEREAS, Jacobi Brishard Scott was born on December 16, 1998, in Covington, 8 Louisiana, to Bridget and Parviz Scott, residents of Denham Springs, Louisiana; and 9 WHEREAS, Jacobi Brishard Scott was baptized at an early age, and was a member 10 of Hurst United Methodist Church in Plaquemine, Louisiana; and 11 WHEREAS, Jacobi Scott, who was fondly referred to as "Cobi", loved all sports and 12 was a natural athlete, dominating the court, track, and field; and 13 WHEREAS, he began his athletic career at Westside Middle School in Walker, 14 Louisiana, and upon entering ninth grade at Walker High School, Jacobi continued to stand 15 out and excelled in football, basketball, and track; and 16 WHEREAS, in 2016 Jacobi Scott lead his team to a 7-3 record and Class 5A playoff 17 berth, ending the school's twenty-five game losing streak in district play; that year passing 18 for 2,969 yards and throwing thirty touchdowns; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 194 SLS 19RS-1993 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, Jacobi achieved many athletic accolades in high school, including being 2 named a school MVP and the co-MVP on offense for the All-Parish Team; and 3 WHEREAS, he graduated from Walker High School and was the standout and star 4 quarterback for the Walker Wildcats football team with a bright future ahead of him; and 5 WHEREAS, he was always an excellent student, leader, and a loyal friend admired 6 by teammates, coaches, students, and faculty in both high school and college; and 7 WHEREAS, he was the key in setting high standards for himself and his teammates, 8 thus setting into motion the future winning seasons for Walker High School athletics; and 9 WHEREAS, Jacobi Scott was attending Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, 10 as a sophomore majoring in computer science and digital arts; and 11 WHEREAS, during his collegiate years he quickly assumed the leadership position 12 as quarterback at Southwestern College where he was considered one of the nicest people 13 on campus; and 14 WHEREAS, he, along with fellow student, friend, and football teammate, Shelvin 15 Keller of Laplace, Louisiana, died in a tragic traffic accident near Marshall, Texas, while 16 returning home for their summer break; and 17 WHEREAS, Jacobi Scott lived a very active life and was friendly, respectful, and 18 well liked by everyone he met; and 19 WHEREAS, in death, Jacobi Scott leaves a tremendous void in his community, state, 20 and college, however, he also leaves a rich and unique legacy, and shall forever remain with 21 the fondest of memories in the hearts of all those who were honored to have known him; and 22 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, 23 and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon respectful, kind, 24 smart, talented young leaders like Jacobi Scott, an extraordinary mentor and role model to 25 the peers, community, youth, and players who looked up to and admired him. 26 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 27 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Jacobi Scott on the 28 occasion of his death. 29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 30 parents of Jacobi Brishard Scott.
