SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 196
BY SENATORS CORTEZ, BOUDREAUX, HENSGENS AND MI LLS
COMMENDATIONS. Commends Dr. Donald Aguillard upon his retirement as
Superintendent of Lafayette Parish Schools.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Dr. Donald Aguillard for over forty-three years of service to the public school
3 students of Louisiana and to congratulate him upon his retirement from the Lafayette
4 Parish Schools.
5 WHEREAS, the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana commends Dr. Aguillard for
6 the exceptional public service he provided to the state of Louisiana over his decades of
7 dedicated service in the public schools of this state; and
8 WHEREAS, he earned a bachelor's degree in secondary science in 1975, a master's
9 degree in curriculum in 1978, an educational specialist degree in 1981, and a doctorate in
10 curriculum and instruction in 1998; and
11 WHEREAS, Dr. Aguillard began his career in the Lafayette Parish schools as a
12 biology teacher; and
13 WHEREAS, his dedication to his students and desire for school improvement
14 resulted in his steady progress to administrative positions including assistant principal,
15 principal, area director, and district administrator; and
16 WHEREAS, his data-driven, results-oriented culture of best educational practices to
17 strengthen teaching and learning led to him being hired away from Lafayette Parish in 2001
18 to become the St. Mary Parish superintendent; and

1 WHEREAS, his accomplishments in St. Mary Parish led to him being hired as
2 superintendent of schools for the Lafayette Parish School System in 2015, thereby meeting
3 one of his lifelong career goals; and
4 WHEREAS, during his tenure, he has consistently kept the best interest of his
5 students in mind and worked diligently to strengthen teaching and learning; and
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Aguillard's unwavering belief that a strong public school system is
7 vital to the strengthening of a community is being demonstrated in his recent announcement
8 to run for a seat on the Lafayette Parish School Board; and
9 WHEREAS, the work of Dr. Aguillard has not only benefitted the teachers and
10 students of south Louisiana, but all citizens of the state of Louisiana.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
12 does hereby commend Dr. Donald Aguillard for over forty-three years of service to the
13 public school students of Louisiana and to congratulate him upon his retirement from the
14 Lafayette Parish Schools.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Dr.
16 Donald Aguillard.
