SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 204

A RESOLUTION
To commend the St. Charles Catholic High School Comets baseball team on winning the
2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA Division II State Championship.
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Catholic High School Comets performed at the highest
level of excellence and put on a display worthy of the title of champions; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Wayne Stein and his staff led the Comets baseball team
to a thrilling victory over the top-seeded University High Cubs by a score of 7-4 at McMurry
Park in Sulphur on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, to claim their first title in school history; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Stein is the former player, the former assistant coach, and now
head coach for the St. Charles Catholic High School Comets baseball team; and 
WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved
without the guidance and skills of Head Coach Wayne Stein, and assistant coaches who have
contributed to the success of the school's baseball program and are worthy of mention for
the long hours of practice and preparation that resulted in the team achieving its first state
championship; and
WHEREAS, each student athlete on the St. Charles Catholic High School baseball
team is notable and worthy of recognition, and the team has brought immense pride and
distinguished honor to the school, community, and state; and 
WHEREAS, nine-hole hitter T.J. Lasseigne started the rally with a one-out walk,
moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single to left field by Peyton Broussard;
and 
WHEREAS, Kaile Levatino hit a ground-rule double down the left field line; then
Roddy Gilbert hit a line drive to right field that eluded the grasp of the University High right
fielder, and rolled to the wall for a two-run triple to make the score 3-0; and

WHEREAS, senior Nick Lorio added an RBI single followed by an Ely Ory hit and
a fielder's choice grounder to score a run by Joe Chiarella; then Caleb St. Martin delivered
an RBI double to make the score 6-0; and 
WHEREAS, senior Nick Lorio pitched a complete game, scattering 10 hits, to
improve to 9-0; and 
WHEREAS, senior Robby Gilbert earned the Most Outstanding Player honors after
getting three hits and driving in three runs; and
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Catholic High School Comets defeated two-time
defending state champion and third-seed Teurlings Catholic and No. 2-seed St. Thomas
Moore before defeating the top-seeded University High Cubs; and
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Catholic High School baseball team brings honor and
distinction, through its athletic excellence, to the school, the LaPlace community, and to the
state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend the St. Charles Catholic High School baseball team on winning the
2019 Division II State Championship and does hereby extend best wishes for continued
success for the coaches and student athletes of this exceptional program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
St. Charles Catholic High School.
