Express condolences upon the death of David Anthony Trahan. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of David Anthony Trahan. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the 5 Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of David Anthony Trahan, 6 at age sixty-eight, on May 26, 2019; and 7 WHEREAS, he was born on June 8, 1950, to Eugene and Ethelyn Trahan in 8 Lafayette, Louisiana, graduated from Cathedral Carmel High School in 1968, and attended 9 the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he met his wife of forty-eight years, 10 Alexis Cotton Trahan; and 11 WHEREAS, they moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, in the 1970s, where 12 David Trahan opened a branch of Gaidry's Men's Wear and owned and operated the business 13 in Lake Charles, as well as the original business in Lafayette, for over forty years; at the time 14 of his passing, he was co-owner and operator of Alterations Plus in Lake Charles; and 15 WHEREAS, he was very active in the community; and 16 WHEREAS, in 2008, David Trahan was instrumental in organizing a group to charter 17 a new local bank which led to the creation of Lakeside Bank which was the only new bank 18 approved in the United States for several years; when the bank opened in July of 2010, the Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 222 SLS 19RS-2989 ORIGINAL 1 New York Times carried the story on its front page; and 2 WHEREAS, he served on the Lakeside Bank board of directors from its inception 3 and previous to that, served as a director for Cameron State Bank; and 4 WHEREAS, in addition, David Trahan was active in Mardi Gras in southwest 5 Louisiana; in 1979, he organized the Krewe of Barataria serving as its Captain for many 6 years and was also recognized as its King; and he also became a member of the Krewe of 7 Contraband; and 8 WHEREAS, David Trahan was also an avid golfer and longtime member of the Lake 9 Charles Country Club; he won the club championship and once tied the course record with 10 a 63; he and his wife, Alexis, also won the couples golf championship at the club numerous 11 times over the years; and he also served on the club's board of directors; and 12 WHEREAS, at one time, David Trahan organized an exchange program in which 13 junior golfers from Lake Charles and Scotland would alternate traveling to each other's 14 homes every summer; and 15 WHEREAS, he also loved to travel and fly-fish; and 16 WHEREAS, most of all, David Trahan was a devoted family man who relished 17 spending time with his grandchildren; and 18 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Jean Trahan, and three 19 brothers: John Richard "Speedy" Trahan, Michael Henry Trahan, and Charles Gabriel 20 Trahan; and 21 WHEREAS, those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Alexis Cotten Trahan; 22 daughter, Dawn Alexis Trahan Alexander, and husband Trey; son, Brian David Trahan and 23 wife Christine; grandchildren, Mary Morgan Alexander, William Rives Alexander, and 24 Harris Mills Trahan; sisters, Mary Louise Trahan and husband Rod, and Julie Trahan Lee; 25 and mother, Ethelyn Trumps Trahan; and 26 WHEREAS, the strength of our communities and the overall vitality of American 27 society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of men like David Anthony Trahan 28 who use their considerable talents and resources to benefit future generations and he will be 29 dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. 30 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 222 SLS 19RS-2989 ORIGINAL 1 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of David Anthony 2 Trahan, does hereby record for posterity his singular contributions and outstanding 3 achievements, and does hereby recognize the enduring appreciation for the pride and honor 4 that this fine gentleman brought to the state of Louisiana and the United States of America. 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 6 Alexis Cotton Trahan.
