SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 229

A RESOLUTION
To commend Francis Caldwell upon being named Citizen of the Year for 2019 by the
Greater Beauregard Chamber of Commerce.
WHEREAS, Francis Caldwell has lived in DeRidder, Louisiana, since 1955, where
she worked in real estate, maintaining her license until she was ninety years old; and
WHEREAS, while living in DeRidder, Mrs. Caldwell says that she "was always
honored to have been able to help people find good places to live," reflecting on her career
that spanned fifty years; and
WHEREAS, Glenda Dean, former president of the Beauregard Chamber of
Commerce and the leader credited with instituting the citizen of the year recognition during
her term, presented the award; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Dean gave a short speech, praising Mrs. Caldwell for her many
contributions to her community over the span of many years, saying that she spoke to so
many people and all had positive things to say about Mrs. Caldwell; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Dean also said "You follow great footsteps, but no one can hold a
candle to Francis Caldwell"; and
WHEREAS, Artie Carhee also spoke briefly, saying "It is our honor to give you this
award … I wish I could be more like you", continuing that Caldwell had "given her life to
our community"; and 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Caldwell became emotional with all the praise, but she expressed
her gratitude for the award; and
WHEREAS, Francis Caldwell continued, saying "When we first moved here [to
Louisiana], I thought I'd move back to Texas. Well, all I can say is that something happens
to you when you move to Louisiana"; and
WHEREAS, celebrating her honor with friends and a thankful community, Francis
Caldwell laughed and visited with all those who came to the ceremony; and

WHEREAS, Francis Caldwell spent more than fifty years of her life finding the
perfect homes for clients and contributing to her community in a meaningful way beyond
her efforts as a skilled realtor and impacted the lives of many beyond her real estate clients.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Francis Caldwell upon being named Citizen of the Year for 2019 by
the Greater Beauregard Chamber of Commerce.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Francis Caldwell at Westwood Manor in DeRidder.
