COMMENDATIONS. Commends Calvin Mills Jr. on being the National Small Business
Association 2019 Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year recipient.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Calvin Mills Jr. on being recognized as the National Small Business
3 Association (NSBA), 2019 Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year
4 recipient.
5 WHEREAS, the NSBA is the nation's oldest and longest-running small-business
6 advocacy organization, advocating for the interests of their customers, companies, and
7 communities to help ensure the continued viability of the small business way of life before
8 the U.S. Congress, White House, and federal agencies; and
9 WHEREAS, the NSBA's membership comprises more than sixty-five thousand small
10 businesses in all fifty states representing every industry; and
11 WHEREAS, the NSBA's Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year award
12 recognizes small business owners who go above and beyond in advocating for the small
13 business community and who meet a demanding qualification and criteria list; and
14 WHEREAS, Calvin Mills Jr. is the first recipient of this award from the great state
15 of Louisiana and a native of New Orleans; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Mills is an award-winning Serial Tech Entrepreneur and graduate
17 of the Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who built his platform
18 in the information technology arena from humble beginnings; and

1 WHEREAS, he is succeeding as the founder, CEO and president of CMC
2 Technology Solutions, and SLT Technology, Inc.; and
3 WHEREAS, Mr. Mills focused his pursuit on making a people-focused mark in his
4 industry, and today is a dynamic speaker, mentor, and author who continues to make a great
5 difference in the lives of the next generation of entrepreneurs; and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Mills' accomplishments have been acknowledge by his peers
7 through such awards as the 2019 NSBA Board of Trustee appointment, 2018 Black
8 Enterprise Magazine BE 100 Modern Man, 2017 Southern University Excellence in
9 Leadership award, 2006 U.S. Department of Homeland Security Small Business
10 Achievement award, and the 2006 Louisiana Business and Technology Center SBDC Client
11 of the Year award; and
12 WHEREAS, in 2016 he was 1 of 50 Business Leaders invited to the White House
13 Business Summit; in 2008, he received two awards from the U.S. Small Business
14 Administration: (1) the Louisiana District Capital Region Small Business Champion of the
15 Year and (2) the Louisiana Minority Small Business Statewide Champion of the Year; and
16 WHEREAS, Calvin Mills Jr. is an accomplished businessman who represents the
17 State of Louisiana well in all his endeavors as he travels the nation sharing his information
18 technology expertise and serving as an excellent role model for the next generation of
19 entrepreneurs.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
21 does hereby commend Calvin Mills Jr., the National Small Business Association, 2019 Lew
22 Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year recipient.
23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does
24 hereby express its congratulation for a job well done and convey its best wishes for all his
25 future aspirations.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
27 Calvin Mills Jr.
