SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 234

A RESOLUTION
To commend Calvin Mills Jr. on being recognized as the National Small Business
Association (NSBA), 2019 Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year
recipient.
WHEREAS, the NSBA is the nation's oldest and longest-running small-business
advocacy organization, advocating for the interests of their customers, companies, and
communities to help ensure the continued viability of the small business way of life before
the U.S. Congress, White House, and federal agencies; and 
WHEREAS, the NSBA's membership comprises more than sixty-five thousand small
businesses in all fifty states representing every industry; and 
WHEREAS, the NSBA's Lew Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year award
recognizes small business owners who go above and beyond in advocating for the small
business community and who meet a demanding qualification and criteria list; and 
WHEREAS, Calvin Mills Jr. is the first recipient of this award from the great state
of Louisiana and a native of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mills is an award-winning Serial Tech Entrepreneur and graduate
of the Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who built his platform
in the information technology arena from humble beginnings; and 
WHEREAS, he is succeeding as the founder, CEO and president of CMC
Technology Solutions, and SLT Technology, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mills focused his pursuit on making a people-focused mark in his
industry, and today is a dynamic speaker, mentor, and author who continues to make a great
difference in the lives of the next generation of entrepreneurs; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mills' accomplishments have been acknowledge by his peers
through such awards as the 2019 NSBA Board of Trustee appointment, 2018 Black
Enterprise Magazine BE 100 Modern Man, 2017 Southern University Excellence in
Leadership award, 2006 U.S. Department of Homeland Security Small Business
Achievement award, and the 2006 Louisiana Business and Technology Center SBDC Client
of the Year award; and 
WHEREAS, in 2016 he was one of 50 business leaders invited to the White House
Business Summit; in 2008, he received two awards from the U.S. Small Business
Administration: (1) the Louisiana District Capital Region Small Business Champion of the
Year, and (2) the Louisiana Minority Small Business Statewide Champion of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Calvin Mills Jr. is an accomplished businessman who represents the
State of Louisiana well in all his endeavors as he travels the nation sharing his information
technology expertise and serving as an excellent role model for the next generation of
entrepreneurs.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Calvin Mills Jr., the National Small Business Association, 2019 Lew
Shattuck Small Business Advocate of the Year recipient.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby express its congratulation for a job well done and convey its best wishes for all his
future aspirations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Calvin Mills Jr.
