Expresses condolences upon the death of Richard Gale Creed Sr. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Richard Gale Creed Sr. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the 5 Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of Richard Gale Creed Sr. 6 on May 29, 2019; and 7 WHEREAS, a resident of Baton Rouge since 1945, Gale Creed was a native of 8 Shreveport, Louisiana, and attended C.E. Byrd High School before receiving a Bachelor of 9 Science from Louisiana State University where he was an officer in the Kappa Sigma 10 Fraternity and Daggers Inter-Fraternity Council; and 11 WHEREAS, during World War II, he volunteered to serve in the United States Navy 12 at seventeen years of age and sailed in the Atlantic and Pacific ocean war zones; thereafter 13 he received his officer's commission in The Naval Reserves; and 14 WHEREAS, Gale Creed was called to active duty in the Korean War as Lieutenant 15 Commander of the Naval destroyer USS Black; in April 1954 he received press coverage 16 and commendations for heroism when he volunteered for a reconnaissance mission under 17 hostile mortar fire on the coast of North Korea; and 18 WHEREAS, he received numerous service awards for military service including the Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 242 SLS 19RS-3278 ORIGINAL 1 Presidential Unit Citation with two Combat Campaign & Engagement Stars for combat 2 service in Korea and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1963; and 3 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Commander Creed will be remembered by his sailors the 4 commanding officer of U.S. Naval Reserve Unit 8-22 in Baton Rouge, leading his division 5 to first recognition in the Eighth Naval District, comprised of six states; he was a charter 6 member of the Baton Rouge Navy League, state vice president of the Naval Reserve 7 Association, state vice president of the Reserve Officers Association, and a member of the 8 Sea Cadets; and 9 WHEREAS, Gale Creed founded his own business, R. Gale Creed Company - Real 10 Estate Appraisers and was recipient of the City's Most Outstanding Realtor in 1972; he was 11 a statewide leader in upgrading the educational and professional requirements for real estate 12 sales and appraisal professionals; and he was a Louisiana Licensed Real Estate Instructor 13 and taught for the Louisiana Realtors Association; and 14 WHEREAS, he was a past president of the Baton Rouge Board of Realtors and state 15 director of the Louisiana Realtors Association, National Association of Homebuilders, and 16 the Million Dollar Round Table; he was a recipient of Look Magazine Merchandising Award 17 for Excellence; and he was a member of the Million Dollar Circle and of the board of 18 directors of the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce; and 19 WHEREAS, Gale Creed was a member of Rotary International attending for fifteen 20 years without missing a meeting as well as a member of the City Club of Baton Rouge and 21 the Baton Rouge Country Club; and 22 WHEREAS, he was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and would often visit 23 the church during the work week for a brief, quiet prayer; he was a founding member of the 24 St Aloysius St. Vincent de Paul Society to provide assistance in the homes of the poor in the 25 parish; and he served as head of the St Aloysius Usher Society; and 26 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his wife, Camille Breaux Creed, a brother 27 and sister-in-law, John L. and Katherine Creed, and sister-in-law, Juliette Claire Breaux; and 28 WHEREAS, he was survived by his three sons and daughters in law: Richard Gale 29 (Kipp) Creed Jr. and Sarah Anne Munson Creed; Stephen Creed; John Curtis and Lisa 30 McHale Creed; and eight grandchildren: Richard Gale Creed III, Katherine Munson Creed Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 242 SLS 19RS-3278 ORIGINAL 1 Gold, William Bannon Creed, Camille Creed Zaunbrecher, Elise McHale Creed, Emily 2 Creed Lorando, Charles Woodward Creed, John Curtis Creed Jr.; and two great 3 grandchildren: Brooks Creed Gold and Juliette Clare Zaunbrecher; and 4 WHEREAS, the memory of Richard Gale Creed Sr. will always remain in the hearts 5 of his family, friends, business associates, and brothers in arms who will forever reap the 6 benefits of his legacy; and 7 WHEREAS, those who knew and loved him will continue to swell with pride when 8 they remember Richard Gale Creed Sr., as a true patriot, a force for good, and a fighter on 9 behalf of his fellow citizens; and 10 WHEREAS, Richard Gale Creed Sr. represented all that is good about Louisiana as 11 a man with unique gifts and a charitable spirit who shared his abilities with his community, 12 state, nation, and world; a man of courage; with his passing Louisiana has lost one of her 13 finest citizens, and he left an indelible mark on the lives of the many individuals whom he 14 touched with his truly inspiring leadership and generosity and who is now terribly missed 15 but will never be forgotten. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 17 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of 18 Richard Gale Creed Sr., does hereby recognize and record for posterity his monumental and 19 historic accomplishments, and does hereby extend appreciation for his enduring 20 contributions that will long continue to be a source of deep honor for the city of 21 Baton Rouge, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America. 22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 23 family of Richard Gale Creed Sr. The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
