2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 242 BY SENATOR CLAITOR A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Richard Gale Creed Sr. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of Richard Gale Creed Sr. on May 29, 2019; and WHEREAS, a resident of Baton Rouge since 1945, Gale Creed was a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, and attended C.E. Byrd High School before receiving a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University where he was an officer in the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Daggers Inter-Fraternity Council; and WHEREAS, during World War II, he volunteered to serve in the United States Navy at seventeen years of age and sailed in the Atlantic and Pacific ocean war zones; thereafter he received his officer's commission in the Naval Reserves; and WHEREAS, Gale Creed was called to active duty in the Korean War as Lieutenant Commander of the Naval destroyer USS Black; in April 1954, he received press coverage and commendations for heroism when he volunteered for a reconnaissance mission under hostile mortar fire on the coast of North Korea; and WHEREAS, he received numerous service awards for military service including the Presidential Unit Citation with two Combat Campaign & Engagement Stars for combat service in Korea and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1963; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Commander Creed will be remembered by his sailors as the commanding officer of U.S. Naval Reserve Unit 8-22 in Baton Rouge, leading his division to first recognition in the Eighth Naval District, comprised of six states; he was a charter member of the Baton Rouge Navy League, state vice president of the Naval Reserve Association, state vice president of the Reserve Officers Association, and a member of the Sea Cadets; and WHEREAS, Gale Creed founded his own business, R. Gale Creed Company - Real Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 242 ENROLLED Estate Appraisers and was recipient of the City's Most Outstanding Realtor in 1972; he was a statewide leader in upgrading the educational and professional requirements for real estate sales and appraisal professionals; and he was a Louisiana Licensed Real Estate Instructor and taught for the Louisiana Realtors Association; and WHEREAS, he was a past president of the Baton Rouge Board of Realtors and state director of the Louisiana Realtors Association, National Association of Homebuilders, and the Million Dollar Round Table; he was a recipient of Look Magazine Merchandising Award for Excellence; and he was a member of the Million Dollar Circle and of the board of directors of the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, Gale Creed was a member of Rotary International, attending for fifteen years without missing a meeting, as well as a member of the City Club of Baton Rouge and the Baton Rouge Country Club; and WHEREAS, he was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and would often visit the church during the work week for a brief, quiet prayer; he was a founding member of the St. Aloysius St. Vincent de Paul Society to provide assistance to the poor in the parish; and he served as head of the St. Aloysius Usher Society; and WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his wife, Camille Breaux Creed, a brother and sister-in-law, John L. and Katherine Creed, and sister-in-law, Juliette Claire Breaux; and WHEREAS, he is survived by his three sons and daughters in law: Richard Gale (Kipp) Creed Jr. and Sarah Anne Munson Creed; Stephen Creed; John Curtis and Lisa McHale Creed; and eight grandchildren: Richard Gale Creed III, Katherine Munson Creed Gold, William Bannon Creed, Camille Creed Zaunbrecher, Elise McHale Creed, Emily Creed Lorando, Charles Woodward Creed, John Curtis Creed Jr.; and two great- grandchildren: Brooks Creed Gold and Juliette Clare Zaunbrecher; and WHEREAS, the memory of Richard Gale Creed Sr. will always remain in the hearts of his family, friends, business associates, and brothers in arms who will forever reap the benefits of his legacy; and WHEREAS, those who knew and loved him will continue to swell with pride when they remember Richard Gale Creed Sr., as a true patriot, a force for good, and a fighter on behalf of his fellow citizens; and Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 242 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Richard Gale Creed Sr. represented all that is good about Louisiana as a man with unique gifts and a charitable spirit who shared his abilities with his community, state, nation, and world; he was a man of courage; with his passing Louisiana has lost one of her finest citizens, and he left an indelible mark on the lives of the many individuals whom he touched with his truly inspiring leadership and generosity and who is now terribly missed but will never be forgotten. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Richard Gale Creed Sr., does hereby recognize and record for posterity his monumental and historic accomplishments, and does hereby extend appreciation for his enduring contributions that will long continue to be a source of deep honor for the city of Baton Rouge, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of Richard Gale Creed Sr. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE Page 3 of 3
