SLS 19RS-3249 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 250 BY SENATOR BARROW COMMENDATIONS. To commend the NAACP upon the 100 year anniversary of its Baton Rouge branch. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) 3 upon the one hundred year anniversary of its Baton Rouge branch. 4 WHEREAS, the NAACP is the oldest civil rights organization in the country and this 5 year marks the 100 year anniversary of its Baton Rouge branch; and 6 WHEREAS, the NAACP advocates for civil and human rights in the areas of 7 education, health, economic opportunity, criminal justice, voting rights, and the 8 environment; and 9 WHEREAS, the NAACP' s mission is to ensure the political, educational, social, and 10 economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial 11 discrimination; and 12 WHEREAS, the NAACP's vision statement is to ensure a society in which all 13 individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination; and 14 WHEREAS, the NAACP's principal objectives are: 15 • To ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all 16 citizens. 17 • To achieve equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens 18 of the United States. Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 250 SLS 19RS-3249 ORIGINAL 1 • To remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes. 2 • To seek enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing 3 civil rights. 4 • To inform the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to 5 seek its elimination. 6 • To educate persons as to their constitutional rights and to take all lawful 7 action to secure the exercise thereof, and to take any other lawful action in 8 furtherance of these objectives, consistent with the NAACP's articles of 9 incorporation and this Constitution; and 10 WHEREAS, the Baton Rouge Branch of the NAACP, along with members of the 11 religious community and key individuals, have made significant advancements and changes 12 in the Baton Rouge community encouraging acceptance of diversity practices, thus bringing 13 unity among the citizens. 14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 15 does hereby commend and congratulate the National Association for the Advancement of 16 Colored People upon the one hundred year anniversary of its Baton Rouge branch. 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to an 18 NAACP Baton Rouge branch leadership executive officer.
