COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Louisiana State University Eunice Lady Bengals
softball team upon winning the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division
II championship.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Louisiana State University Eunice Lady Bengals softball team upon
3 winning the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II
4 championship.
5 WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 25, 2019, the Louisiana State University Eunice
6 (LSUE) softball team pounded three home runs early in the final game on the way to a 10-5
7 win that completed a sweep through the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association
8 Division II championship tournament; and
9 WHEREAS, LSUE's victory over Phoenix College marked the Lady Bengals' sixth
10 national softball title, and the team finished with a tremendous win-loss record of 52-6 for
11 the season; and
12 WHEREAS, several players for LSUE earned special honors in the tournament,
13 among them, Jensen Howell was named Most Outstanding Pitcher; Madison Monson
14 delivered a two-run home run, her team-best fourteenth home run of the season and third of
15 the national tourney; Abbey Higginbotham hammered home two runs; and Kelci Bodin, who
16 crushed a grand slam homer, was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for batting
17 .313 through five games with eight runs batted in, four runs scored, two doubles, two home
18 runs, and three stolen bases; and

1 WHEREAS, the hard work, dedication, and remarkable athletic feats of the members
2 of the LSU Eunice softball team throughout the regular season and the postseason have
3 culminated in the coveted 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II
4 championship, and each of the Lady Bengals performed at her highest level of excellence
5 throughout the season and deserves recognition for her vital contributions to the winning
6 effort; the team's accomplishments would not have been possible without the guidance and
7 skills of Head Coach Andy Lee, his assistants, and all of the individuals who have
8 contributed to the success of the school's softball program; and
9 WHEREAS, the team's outstanding season upholds the glorious tradition of the
10 Bengals, and all Louisiana State University Eunice alumni and fans recognize the immense
11 pride and distinguished honor the team brings to its community.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
13 does hereby commend the Louisiana State University Eunice softball team upon winning the
14 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II championship and does
15 hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this fine
16 softball program as they celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success
17 in the future.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
19 Head Coach Andy Lee.
