2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 275 BY SENATOR BARROW A RESOLUTION To commend Rev. William King on his contributions to youth through his Project RIDE program. WHEREAS, Project RIDE, Rev. King's acronym for "Ride Into Deep Entertainment", was created in 1992 to teach youth to be poised and unafraid in life as well as on horseback; and WHEREAS, Project RIDE teaches youth to care for horses by riding and grooming them and teaches them to care for people by giving back to their neighboring communities through community service projects, volunteerism, and assistance to the elderly and underprivileged; and WHEREAS, the goal of Project RIDE is to take troubled youth who fail course work, drop out of school, and engage in unlawful acts and give them love through the bond between animal and man, because as that love grows, the youth are taught to give that love back to people as they are groomed to become positive and productive citizens; and WHEREAS, Project RIDE brings youth from the inner city into the fresh air of Baker for their encounter with Black Beauty whom Rev. King calls a "good kid horse"; and WHEREAS, once there, the village, consisting of family, friends, mentors, and the horses, begins to shower the kids with love, showing them good, positive interactions and helping them to keep hope alive by sharing in positive activities; and WHEREAS, many youth who have participated in Project RIDE say they are grateful for the many walks, talks, and lessons received from Rev. William King and the village people which prepare them for life.
