SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Recognizes April 11, 2019, as Louisiana Children's Trust
Fund Day at the state capitol.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize April 11, 2019, as Louisiana Children's Trust Fund Day at the state capitol.
3 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Children's Trust Fund was established in 1983; and
4 WHEREAS, following a devastating child abuse fatality the Louisiana Legislature
5 unanimously passed the Louisiana Children's Trust Fund Act to prioritize and separate funds
6 for the prevention of child abuse and neglect; and
7 WHEREAS, Louisiana became the fifth state in the United States of America to
8 establish a Children's Trust Fund; and
9 WHEREAS, the mission of the Louisiana Children's Trust Fund is to prevent child
10 abuse and neglect among Louisiana's children and families through building strong
11 cross-sector partnerships and through increased child safety public awareness; and
12 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Children's Trust Fund serves as a catalyst for abuse and
13 neglect prevention efforts within the state of Louisiana; and
14 WHEREAS, the chief responsibilities of the fund include creation of a state plan for
15 the prevention of child abuse and neglect, presentation of its annual review to the governor
16 and the legislature, and funding community-based child abuse and neglect programs to
17 public and nonprofit organizations through its grant process; and
18 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislature recognizes that the safety of Louisiana's

1 children is of the utmost importance for the well-being of our families and communities; and
2 WHEREAS, during the month of April, the Louisiana Children's Trust Fund, in
3 collaboration with statewide partners, engages individuals and communities in a coordinated
4 effort to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and to further promote awareness of
5 positive programs aimed at ending this epidemic; and
6 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislature recognizes the Louisiana Children's Trust
7 Fund as important to furthering the development in our state and appreciates the hard work,
8 dedication, and efficiency of programs sponsored by the Louisiana Children's Trust Fund.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
10 does hereby recognize April 11, 2019, as Louisiana Children's Trust Fund Day at the state
11 capitol.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
13 executive director and executive administrative assistant of the Louisiana Children's Trust
14 Fund.
