Commends David Hankins upon his retirement as executive director of the Louisiana Baptist Convention. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend David Hankins upon his retirement as executive director of the Louisiana 3 Baptist Convention. 4 WHEREAS, David Hankins has served as executive director of the Louisiana Baptist 5 Convention (LBC) since 2005; and 6 WHEREAS, a native of California, Mr. Hankins was reared in Texas and graduated 7 from Dallas Baptist University as well as Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where 8 he earned a master's degree and a doctoral degree; and 9 WHEREAS, he was exposed to Christianity his entire life as his father was a Baptist 10 deacon and his grandfather was a Baptist preacher; and 11 WHEREAS, in 1963, at the age of thirteen, Mr. Hankins made a profession of faith, 12 and four years later committed himself to the Gospel ministry and became an ordained 13 minister; and 14 WHEREAS, from 1971 to 1985, he served a pair of Baptist churches in Texas and 15 then Mr. Hankins traveled to Louisiana where he grew the membership of Trinity Baptist 16 Church in Lake Charles from two thousand five hundred members to nearly three thousand 17 five hundred and baptized more than nine hundred members during that time; and 18 WHEREAS, he was also heavily involved in state and national denominational life Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 3 SLS 19RS-284 ORIGINAL 1 during that time and served as president of the state Pastors' Conference in 1995 and as chair 2 of the LBC Committee on Committees from 1989 to 1992; and 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Hankins also chaired the 1991 Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) 4 Resolutions Committee and was chair of the SBC Executive Committee from 1991 to 1992; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, upon leaving Trinity Baptist Church in 1996, he became vice president 7 for convention policy with the SBC Executive Committee, was named vice president for the 8 Cooperative Program in 1998 to expand involvement in supporting world missions and 9 ministry, and began his tenure as executive director with the LBC on February 1, 2005; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Hankins has been married to his wife, Patty, since 1969 and they 11 have three grown sons, Andy, Eric, and Adam, and are members of the Philadelphia Baptist 12 Church in Alexandria; and 13 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, 14 and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication 15 of people like David Hankins; and 16 WHEREAS, David Hankins merits the highest commendation and sincere 17 congratulations for his exemplary service as executive director of the Louisiana Baptist 18 Convention and for his faithful leadership and devotion to its members. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 20 does hereby commend and congratulate David Hankins on the occasion of his retirement as 21 executive director of the Louisiana Baptist Convention; record and recognize his numerous 22 contributions to this state; extend to him much appreciation for his long, dedicated, and 23 generous service; and express sincere wishes for health and happiness in all of his future 24 endeavors. 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 26 David Hankins.
