SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 33

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate the officers and membership of Louisiana REALTORS®
Association upon the celebration of its centennial anniversary.
WHEREAS, the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes the first 100 years
of the Louisiana REALTORS® organization and acknowledges April 23, 2019, as
REALTOR® Day at the state capitol; and
WHEREAS, in 1919, Louisiana REALTORS® was established as a member-based
trade association organized to assist its constituents in the business of buying and selling
immovable property; and
WHEREAS, for the past century, Louisiana REALTORS® has been the trusted voice
in real estate matters and remains true to its commitment to properly represent its
membership on significant real estate related issues, to create professional development
opportunities, to advocate for the rights of property owners, and to provide other services
that are unique to the profession; and
WHEREAS, in the beginning, the local real estate boards of New Orleans,
Alexandria, and Shreveport banded together to create a statewide association that has grown
to a membership of approximately 14,500 professionals; and
WHEREAS, in 1920, R.R. Emery, a businessman from Shreveport, became the
association's first president; and
WHEREAS, the current and early governing documents of the association state that
its purpose is "to promote and maintain the highest standards of conduct in the transaction
of real estate business" and "to promote the welfare of property owners, tenants, buyers, and
in general, the good of the people of the state of Louisiana"; and

WHEREAS, in 1946, Louisiana REALTORS® gained acceptance as a member of
the National Association of REALTORS®; the national group, with a present membership
of 1.3 million members, all of whom are committed to the purpose of raising standards of
real estate practice and preserving the rights of property ownership in the interest of the
public welfare; and 
WHEREAS, Louisiana REALTORS® provide a facility for continuing education,
research, and the exchange of information for those engaged in the real estate business and
upholds the interest, dignity, and character of the real estate profession in the state of
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana REALTORS® has worked as a tireless proponent for the real
estate industry and the people of Louisiana by advocating for the passage of legislation that
has provided for equal opportunity in housing, constitutionally prohibited taxation on the
transfer of property, and countless other measures which serve to protect the public.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend the Louisiana REALTORS® and its membership on its centennial
anniversary.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby congratulate the organization for remaining as the trusted voice for real estate in
Louisiana today and well into the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
officers of Louisiana REALTORS®.
