SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 36

A RESOLUTION
To designate April 18, 2019, as "Lineman Appreciation Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol.
WHEREAS, National Lineman Appreciation Day is a time to express the utmost
appreciation to the great men and women who work so hard for the public every day; and
WHEREAS, this day of appreciation is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work,
innovation, and dedication of electrical linemen in Louisiana and across the country; and
WHEREAS, it is worth noting that if the power is on in Louisiana, all Louisianians
have the hardworking linemen to thank; and
WHEREAS, from the power plant, the grid crisscrossing the country both above and
underground, to the meters on homes, the men and women who are electrical linemen build
and maintain the system that keeps this nation powered; and
WHEREAS, linemen are often among the first responders after storms and other
catastrophic events, working to restore power, and some sense of normalcy; and
WHEREAS, linemen work with thousands of volts coursing through wires high
above the ground or deep below it, twenty-four hours a day, all days of the year, whenever
repairs, maintenance, or improvements are needed; and
WHEREAS, as familiar as Louisianians are with hurricanes, floods, and other natural
disasters, it should be simple to recall the highways and parking lots of big box stores loaded
with electrical linemen and their equipment arriving from all over the country to restore
power to homes and businesses; and
WHEREAS, linemen often work under dangerous conditions, whether atop high
wires or below ground restoring power or constructing increased capacity to meet the
people's needs; and
WHEREAS, linemen put their lives in danger nearly every day in order to keep
electricity flowing, bringing power to fuel all the devices that define life in this new century;
and

WHEREAS, for their bravery in doing a dangerous job, willingness to help those in
need around the country, and professionalism in first responder situations that often take
them far from home, it is appropriate to designate April 18, 2019, as Lineman Appreciation
Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate April 18, 2019, as "Lineman Appreciation Day" at the Louisiana State
Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana Public Service Commission and the Association of Louisiana Electric
Cooperatives.
