Commends LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing for its dedication in educating and inspiring the next generation of nursing healthcare providers and leaders in Louisiana. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing for its dedication in educating 3 and inspiring the next generation of nursing healthcare leaders in Louisiana. 4 WHEREAS, the LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing, established in 1968, 5 provides multiple programs educating nursing students in advanced patient care 6 methodologies, interprofessional care coordination, and comprehensive patient diversity and 7 inclusiveness elements; and 8 WHEREAS, it has been widely recognized that nurses from all roles, populations of 9 care, and specialties are vital elements in a comprehensive and effective healthcare delivery 10 system; and 11 WHEREAS, the LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing was ranked the #4 12 public nursing school in the United States for 2018 by Nursing Schools Almanac; and 13 WHEREAS, students attending the School of Nursing can pursue bachelor, master, 14 and doctoral level degrees in areas such as Nurse Generalist, Clinical Nurse Leader, Nurse 15 Educator, Nurse Anesthetist, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Nurse 16 Scientist; and 17 WHEREAS, pursuant to the school's values of stewardship, organizational 18 citizenship, nursing innovation, caring, professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity, and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 40 SLS 19RS-617 ORIGINAL 1 excellence, Dr. Jessica Landry and Dr. Todd Tartavoulle have developed and championed 2 unique programs designed to assist vulnerable populations within Louisiana; and 3 WHEREAS, Dr. Landry developed the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) 4 program which educates and certifies nurses to specialize in treating sexual assault victims 5 which result in improved patient care and higher conviction rates; and 6 WHEREAS, Drs. Tartavoulle and Landry have created and promoted the Advocacy 7 Training Program for Louisiana nurses and nursing students which provides instruction on 8 delivering culturally sensitive care to LGBTQ+ patients. 9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 10 does hereby commend the LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing, School Dean Dr. 11 Demetrius Porche, Dr. Jessica Landry, and Dr. Todd Tartavoulle for outstanding work in 12 advancing healthcare practices and nursing education in the state of Louisiana. 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 14 Dr. Larry Hollier, Chancellor of LSU Health New Orleans.
