SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Designates Tuesday, April 23, 2019, as Winn-Dixie Day
at the legislature and commends Winn-Dixie for its commitment to Louisiana.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To designate Tuesday, April 23, 2019, as "Winn-Dixie Day at the legislature" and to
3 commend Winn-Dixie for its commitment to Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride and gratitude that the Senate of the Legislature of
5 Louisiana commends Winn-Dixie for its longstanding commitment to Louisiana's economy
6 and its citizens as exemplified through the grocer's successful endeavors in community
7 involvement and years of generous charitable contributions; and
8 WHEREAS, the neighborhood grocer has consistently reaffirmed its commitment
9 to customers, associates, and community with partnerships and programs that speak to the
10 unique values of the Louisiana market for the past sixty-three years; and
11 WHEREAS, as one of the top grocers in the nation, Winn-Dixie has employed
12 working Louisianans in communities throughout the state for decades and continues to
13 partner with organizations like Urban League of Greater New Orleans to recruit and employ
14 Louisianans who are ready to make a difference in their community; and
15 WHEREAS, the grocer has committed to an ongoing investment in Louisiana's
16 children through commitments and sponsorships with the Children's Museum of New
17 Orleans and Girl Scouts of South Louisiana in addition to local schools like Riverdale High
18 School, Edna Carr High School, and Alice C. Harte Elementary; and

1 WHEREAS, following Hurricane Katrina, the neighborhood grocer stood with and
2 assisted Louisianans with their efforts to rebuild through partnerships with Habitat for
3 Humanity, SPCA, and United Way; and
4 WHEREAS, as a Community Partner to Ochsner Hospital for Children, the grocer
5 has committed to impacting and improving the quality of life for young Louisianans by
6 participating in community activities and donating more than $100,000 since 2017; and
7 WHEREAS, the grocer has maintained an ongoing commitment to less fortunate
8 Louisianans by donating excess food from area stores to local families and sponsoring food
9 drives through partnerships with Baton Rouge Food Bank and Second Harvest; and
10 WHEREAS, the neighborhood grocer honors the service of Louisiana veterans by
11 annually donating to veterans in need during Thanksgiving and donating LSU tickets to
12 veterans for the 2017 Veteran's Day football game; and
13 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana and the livelihood of our
14 communities depend upon businesses like Winn-Dixie, which continues to impact lives.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
16 does hereby designate Tuesday, April 23, 2019, as "Winn-Dixie Day at the legislature" and
17 commend Winn-Dixie for its commitment to Louisiana.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted
19 to Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc.
