COMMENDATIONS. Commends Myracle Lewis from Baton Rouge Magnet High School
upon being named a Distinguished Finalist in Louisiana for the 2019 Prudential Spirit of
Community Awards program.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Myracle Lewis from Baton Rouge Magnet High School on being named a
3 Distinguished Finalist in Louisiana for the 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community
4 Awards program.
5 WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program represents the
6 United States' largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service; and
7 WHEREAS, all public and private middle and high schools in the country, as well
8 as all Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, American Red Cross chapters, YMCAs,
9 and affiliates of Points of Light's HandsOn Network, were eligible to select a student or
10 member for a local Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
11 WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial, Inc. in
12 partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young
13 volunteers across the country who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to
14 serving their communities; and
15 WHEREAS, the nationwide program, in its twenty-fourth year, recognizes young
16 people for outstanding, self-initiated community service; and
17 WHEREAS, Myracle Lewis is a seventeen-year-old senior at Baton Rouge Magnet
18 High School who was named for being an active volunteer with organizations that help the

1 homeless in downtown Baton Rouge and beyond, by helping to secure food, clothing, and
2 other necessities donated by local businesses and other volunteers, and visit recipients to
3 share the donations, prayers, and encouragement; and
4 WHEREAS, this extraordinary young woman exemplifies the spirit of community
5 that is so important to the future of our state and country; and
6 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
7 and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication
8 of young people like Myracle Lewis who use their compassion and considerable talent to
9 assist others.
10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
11 does hereby commend and congratulate Myracle Lewis on being chosen as one of the
12 Distinguished Finalists in Louisiana for the 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards;
13 does hereby recognize her outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and
14 community spirit; and does hereby extend to her best wishes for continued success and
15 happiness in her future endeavors.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
17 Myracle Lewis.
