Designates May 9, 2019, as Louisiana Physical Therapy Association Day at the state capitol. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To designate May 9, 2019, as "Louisiana Physical Therapy Association Day" at the 3 Louisiana State Capitol and commend the association on its outstanding 4 achievements and contributions to improving the health and welfare of Louisiana. 5 WHEREAS, physical therapy is a corporeal medicine and rehabilitation specialty that 6 rededicates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life for patients 7 through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical interventions which use mechanical 8 force and movements; and 9 WHEREAS, the practice of physical therapy endeavors to enhance the physical 10 health and functional abilities of the people of Louisiana through the prevention, diagnosis, 11 and treatment of movement dysfunctions, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal conditions; 12 and 13 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association (LPTA) adopted its first 14 bylaws in 1982; and 15 WHEREAS, since its inception the LPTA has provided outstanding leadership for 16 those eligible for its membership of physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and 17 students in Louisiana who are pursuing careers in the practice of physical therapy; and 18 WHEREAS, the LPTA strives to expand its membership among physical therapists, Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 74 SLS 19RS-719 ORIGINAL 1 physical therapy assistants, and students in these disciplines in order to enhance participation 2 in legislative policymaking to achieve greater influence in healthcare delivery issues for the 3 benefit of their patients; and 4 WHEREAS, the association has been instrumental in assisting its members to 5 provide the highest quality care available and the members of the association proudly 6 employ their skills in the best interest of their patients; and 7 WHEREAS, the LPTA proclaims in its mission statement that it exists to optimize 8 the health and quality of life of the people of Louisiana by advancing the profession of 9 physical therapy; and 10 WHEREAS, this outstanding organization has provided leadership to the physical 11 therapy professionals who practice in Louisiana by promoting key values and behaviors that 12 embrace professionalism; and 13 WHEREAS, in focusing on its mission, the LPTA provides numerous educational 14 opportunities to meet the needs of students of physical therapy, clinicians, and society at 15 large; and 16 WHEREAS, with an aging population and an increasing emphasis on physical fitness 17 and health, the members of the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association, including physical 18 therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students engaged in the study of these 19 professions, will play an ever increasing significant role in improving health outcomes and 20 longevity for Louisiana citizens today and into the future. 21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 22 does hereby designate May 9, 2019, as "Louisiana Physical Therapy Association Day" at the 23 Louisiana State Capitol and commends the association on its outstanding achievements and 24 contributions to improving the health and welfare of Louisiana citizens. 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 26 Louisiana Physical Therapy Association.
