SLS 19RS-529 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 76 BY SENATOR THOMPSON CONDOLENCES. Expresses condolences upon the death of Milton Vance Linder. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of Milton Vance Linder. 4 WHEREAS, Milton Vance Linder, lovingly known as "Fox", the "White Shadow", 5 "Coach", and "Big" was born March 6, 1940, in Winnsboro, Louisiana, and spent his 6 childhood in Franklin Parish; and 7 WHEREAS, he developed an early passion for basketball and in 1959, earned a place 8 on the Louisiana State Championship basketball team and was named the Louisiana High 9 School Athletic Association Most Valuable Player; and 10 WHEREAS, upon graduating Fort Necessity High School in 1960, he attended 11 Northeast Louisiana State College on a basketball scholarship; and 12 WHEREAS, while in college he discovered his passion for education and earned a 13 master's degree in educational leadership; and 14 WHEREAS, he began his career at Ogden High School in 1962, where he taught and 15 coached for eight years; and 16 WHEREAS, in 1970, Milton moved to Delhi High School, where he coached 17 football, basketball, and golf, earning a string of victories and being named the 1974 18 Louisiana Coach of the Year; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 76 SLS 19RS-529 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, a man of many talents and abilities, his career continued to blossom 2 when in 1970 he was appointed principal of Delhi Elementary School, a position he would 3 serve in for over twenty years, and during which time he was an important voice in the 4 Louisiana Association of School Executives as well as the Louisiana Association of 5 Principals, where he served as president; and 6 WHEREAS, he was an active member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Delhi 7 Jaycees, Lion's Club, and the Northeast Louisiana Livestock Association Livestock Show, 8 where he served as president from 1997 to 2016, and was a member of the Richland Parish 9 Police Jury; and 10 WHEREAS, a devout and humble Christian, Milton was a faithful member of Dehli 11 First Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and working with youth and his 12 men's group for over fifty years; and 13 WHEREAS, he left this earth to be with his Heavenly Father on March 29, 2019; and 14 WHEREAS, a true friend and a loving father, husband, and brother, Milton Vance 15 Linder will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 17 does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of Milton Vance Linder. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 19 family of Milton Vance Linder.
