SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 89
BY SENATOR CHABERT 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH.  Designates Wednesday, May 1, 2019, as Oil and Natural
Gas Industry Day at the state capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To designate Wednesday, May 1, 2019, as Oil and Natural Gas Industry Day at the state
3 capitol.
4 WHEREAS, more than two hundred sixty thousand Louisianians are employed by
5 the oil and natural gas industry, from rigs to office jobs; and
6 WHEREAS, the oil and natural gas industry continues to be the foundation of the
7 state's economy with a $72.8 billion economic impact, generating over $19 billion in
8 household earnings for Louisianians, with energy jobs and earnings found in all but one of
9 the state's sixty-four parishes; and
10 WHEREAS, the oil and natural gas industry not only brings jobs to cities and
11 parishes in Louisiana, but it injects money into the local economy and Louisiana enables
12 communities to not only survive, but to thrive; and
13 WHEREAS, the oil and natural gas industry is one of the biggest contributors to
14 Louisiana's economy paying nearly $2 billion in direct and indirect taxes to the state treasury
15 which helps pay for schools, healthcare, roads, and other state-funded initiatives; and
16 WHEREAS, the oil and natural gas industry in Louisiana is the biggest private
17 investor in the state's coast, funding research, working with top scientists, and investing in
18 dozens of private and public projects that all work to protect and improve our coastline; and

1 WHEREAS, Louisiana is the nation's number two producer of crude oil and the
2 number four producer of natural gas among the fifty states, ranks number two among the
3 states in petroleum refining capacity with its eighteen refineries, and has over ninety-two
4 thousand miles of pipelines transporting crude petroleum and natural gas within the state and
5 in its offshore area of the Gulf of Mexico.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
7 does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 1, 2019, as the fifth annual Oil and Natural Gas
8 Industry Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend the industry for more than a
9 century of partnership with Louisiana, providing jobs and economic benefits for the state
10 while providing the energy that fuels a nation.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
12 secretary of the United States Senate, the clerk of the United States House of
13 Representatives, and to each member of the Louisiana delegation to the United States
14 Congress.
