COMMERCIAL REGULATIONS: Provides relative to motor vehicle repairs (Item #39)
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 32:1263(A), relative to motor vehicle repairs; to increase fee
3 limitations; to make technical changes; and to provide for related matters.
4Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1. R.S. 32:1263(A) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
6 ยง1263. Motor vehicle repairs
7 A. Suppliers of mechanical repairs and services for any vehicle subject to
8 regulation pursuant to this Chapter shall provide each consumer with an itemized bill
9 indicating repairs and services performed, parts replaced, or materials used, the total
10 labor charge, and the identity of the mechanic, repairman, or supplier who performed
11 the work. However, nothing Nothing in this Section shall prohibit a supplier of
12 mechanical repairs and services from charging a service fee for the use of shop
13 supplies such as rags, fender covers, small amounts of fluid, or other items which are
14 not itemized, provided that such the fee does not exceed five ten percent of the total
15 invoice for mechanical repairs or thirty-five fifty dollars, whichever is less.

Abstract: Increases the maximum amount a supplier of mechanical repairs and services
may charge as a service fee for the use of shop supplies.
Present law requires suppliers of mechanical repairs and services for any vehicle subject to
present law to provide an itemized bill to each consumer.
Proposed law retains present law.
Present law allows the supplier to charge a service fee for the use of certain shop supplies
that are not itemized, as long as the fee does not exceed a maximum amount.
Proposed law retains present law but increases the maximum amount that can be charged.
Present law requires the service fee to be the lesser of 5% of the total invoice for mechanical
repair or $35.
Proposed law changes present law to require the service fee be the lesser of 10% of the total
invoice for mechanical repair or $50.
