HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 12

CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences on the death of Amber Stevens
1	A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death, on March 17,
3 2020, of Amber Stevens.
4 WHEREAS, Amber Stevens was a resident of Metairie and a longtime volunteer
5advocate for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, or ACS CAN; and
6 WHEREAS, Mrs. Stevens always attended ACS CAN's annual day at the capitol;
7during this event, she made sure to capitalize on every opportunity to speak with legislators
8about the ACS CAN's state legislative priorities as well as the issues that were most
9important to her; Amber was selected as the network's Volunteer of the Year in 2017; and
10 WHEREAS, Amber's volunteerism and passion for advocacy were motivated by her
11belief in the importance of research in the fight against cancer and her dedication to ensuring
12a better quality of life for cancer patients and their families; she also contributed to the
13quality of life of cancer patients by volunteering at the Patrick F. Hope Lodge; and
14 WHEREAS, among her achievements as an advocate, she was most proud of her
15work on the "Smoke-Free New Orleans" campaign and the passage of state laws prohibiting
16smoking indoors in public places; and
17 WHEREAS, in addition to her involvement in the ACS CAN, Mrs. Stevens was a
18past member of the Krewe of Iris; and
19 WHEREAS, Amber Stevens was a shining example of the importance and impact
20of civic advocacy, and her work to push for the improvement of the quality of life is

1deserving of recognition; she will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, siblings,
2and friends; the state of Louisiana is a better place because of her efforts.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Amber
5Stevens; does hereby express genuine gratitude for her advocacy for the American Cancer
6Society Cancer Action Network; and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes that her
7family and friends find peace and comfort in their time of loss.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
9family of Amber Stevens.
