HLS 201ES-147 ORIGINAL 2020 First Extraordinary Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 14 BY REPRESENTATIVE ECHOLS CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences on the death of JulianVenoy Kinnaird 1 A RESOLUTION 2To express condolences on the death, on Friday, June 5, 2020, of Julian Venoy Kinnaird. 3 WHEREAS, Julian Venoy Kinnaird was a life-long farmer and one of Louisiana's 4largest sweet potato producers; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Kinnaird was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in the 6Vietnam War; his service instilled in him a great love of his country, and he was a fervent 7supporter of veteran causes; he was instrumental in the creation of the Morehouse Parish 8Veterans Memorial, which recognizes all veterans of the parish who lost their lives in 9defense of their country; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Kinnaird was a civil and community servant throughout his life; he 11served on the board of commissioners of the Tensas Basin Levee District, the Bastrop 12Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board, and the Louisiana Sweet Potato Commission; 13and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Kinnaird was known for his renowned purple hull pea soup, which 15drew hungry crowds and allowed him to connect with governors, generals, and state 16lawmakers; he even took his famous dish to Washington, D.C., with former congressman 17John Cooksey and fed members of the U.S. House of Representatives; and 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Kinnaird is survived by his wife of fifty years, Pauline Kinnaird; 19daughters, Jeana Kinnaird Jankowski, and her husband Chuck, Julie Kinnaird McCall, and 20her husband Chris, Jennifer Kinnaird Stephenson, and her husband Kenneth; sisters, 21Reatagae Kinnaird Wooden, Becky Kinnaird Johnson, and her husband Earnest, and Cindy 22Kinnaird Shockey; and five grandchildren; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 201ES-147 ORIGINAL HR NO. 14 1 WHEREAS, Julian Venoy Kinnaird was an admired public servant, respected 2veteran, a titan of Louisiana agriculture, and an integral member of Louisiana's legendary 3political community. 4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Julian 6Venoy Kinnaird; does hereby recognize his community leadership, gregarious spirit, and 7service to the state of Louisiana; does hereby express appreciation for his generosity and his 8cooking skills; and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes that his family and friends 9find comfort during this somber time. 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 11family of Julian Venoy Kinnaird.
