ENROLLED 2020 First Extraordinary Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 14 BY REPRESENTATIVES ECHOLS AND THOMPSON A RESOLUTION To express condolences on the death, on Friday, June 5, 2020, of Julian Venoy Kinnaird. WHEREAS, Julian Venoy Kinnaird was a life-long farmer and one of Louisiana's largest sweet potato producers; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kinnaird was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in the Vietnam War; his service instilled in him a great love of his country, and he was a fervent supporter of veteran causes; he was instrumental in the creation of the Morehouse Parish Veterans Memorial, which recognizes all veterans of the parish who lost their lives in defense of their country; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kinnaird was a civil and community servant throughout his life; he served on the board of commissioners of the Tensas Basin Levee District, the Bastrop Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board, and the Louisiana Sweet Potato Commission; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kinnaird was known for his renowned purple hull pea soup, which drew hungry crowds and allowed him to connect with governors, generals, and state lawmakers; he even took his famous dish to Washington, D.C., with former congressman John Cooksey and fed members of the U.S. House of Representatives; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kinnaird is survived by his wife of fifty years, Pauline Kinnaird; daughters, Jeana Kinnaird Jankowski, and her husband Chuck, Julie Kinnaird McCall, and her husband Chris, Jennifer Kinnaird Stephenson, and her husband Kenneth; sisters, Reatagae Kinnaird Wooden, Becky Kinnaird Johnson, and her husband Earnest, and Cindy Kinnaird Shockey; and five grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Julian Venoy Kinnaird was an admired public servant, respected veteran, a titan of Louisiana agriculture, and an integral member of Louisiana's legendary political community. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 14 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Julian Venoy Kinnaird; does hereby recognize his community leadership, gregarious spirit, and service to the state of Louisiana; does hereby express appreciation for his generosity and his cooking skills; and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes that his family and friends find comfort during this somber time.
