COMMENDATIONS: Commends Florence Murchison Breda on the celebration of her
ninetieth birthday
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Florence Murchison Breda on the celebration of her ninetieth birthday.
3 WHEREAS, nine decades ago in Washington, D.C., Ernest and Florence Murchison
4were graced by the arrival of a baby girl on June 22, 1930; they named her Florence; and
5 WHEREAS, Florence attended Rock Castle Boarding High School in Richmond,
6Virginia, which is run by the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, and Dunbarton College in
7Washington, D.C., where she majored in library science; and
8 WHEREAS, she began her career at the Library of Congress; she met the love of her
9life, Dr. Leonard C. Breda, Jr., at the Howard University College of Dentistry; the young
10couple moved to Lake Charles and were blessed with three beautiful children, and later three
11grandchildren; and
12 WHEREAS, Florence worked as a substitute teacher at Riverside Elementary, and
13tutored at Immaculate Conception Cathedral School and Pearl Watson Elementary; she loved
14to mold the lives of her young students; and
15 WHEREAS, after retirement, she became a dedicated foster grandparent at Combre
16Elementary, sustaining her commitment to bettering the lives of children; and
17 WHEREAS, Florence is a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the
18Doretha A. Combre Business and Professional Women's Club, and Alpha Kappa Alpha
19Sorority, Inc., and a former volunteer for the American Cancer Society; she enjoys being an
20active senior; and

1 WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives join with her family in
2the joyous celebration of Florence's ninetieth birthday.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Florence Murchison Breda
5upon the celebration of her ninetieth birthday and does hereby extend wishes for continued
6good health and happiness for many birthdays to come.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
8Florence Murchison Breda.
