HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 52

COMMENDATIONS: Commends Mark West on the occasion of his retirement
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Mark West, upon the occasion of his retirement, for thirty-six years of
3 dedicated public service to Ascension Parish and the state of Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, Mark West began his career in tax collection in 1984 as a sales tax
5auditor and senior agent for the Louisiana Department of Revenue; and
6 WHEREAS, Mark transitioned to local sales tax collection, becoming sales tax
7administrator for the Ascension Parish Sales and Use Tax Authority, in 1990; and
8 WHEREAS, Mark faithfully served the people of Ascension Parish in that capacity
9for twenty-seven years, implementing innovative programs to promote reliability and
10efficiency in local sales tax collection; and
11 WHEREAS, during his tenure as Ascension Parish sales tax administrator, Mark was
12a proud and active member of the Louisiana Association of Tax Administrators (LATA),
13serving as its president in 1999 and 2012; and
14 WHEREAS, Mark retired from his position as sales tax administrator in 2017 and
15joined LATA as its legislative director; and
16 WHEREAS, on January 1, 2018, Mark became the executive director of LATA, an
17organization created in 1966 to assist local tax administrators, provide continuing education
18and disseminate information, increase efficiency in local tax collection, and encourage
19cooperation between tax administrators; and
20 WHEREAS, Mark's efforts throughout his career have fostered significant
21developments in local sales tax collection, including the single parish collector system, the

1Uniform Local Sales Tax Code, the local sales and use tax commission for remote sellers,
2and the Louisiana uniform local sales tax board.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Mark West, on the occasion of his
5retirement, for his thirty-six years of dedicated public service to Ascension Parish and the
6state of Louisiana; does hereby express gratitude for his innumerable contributions to local
7sales tax collection rules and procedures; and does hereby wish him much happiness and
8success in his future endeavors.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mark
10West.
