SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 24
BY SENATORS CATHEY AND MORRI S AND REPRESENTATIVE DEVILLIER 
CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences upon the death of  Philip Andrew "Andy" Trahan
Jr. and posthumously commends him for his lung cancer advocacy and mentorship.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Philip
3 Andrew "Andy" Trahan Jr. and to posthumously commend him for his lung cancer
4 advocacy and mentorship.
5 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Legislature of
6 Louisiana has learned of the passing of Mr. Philip Andrew "Andy" Trahan Jr., at age forty,
7 of Monroe, Louisiana, on June 19, 2020; and 
8 WHEREAS, Andy was born December 5, 1979, in Bristol, Pennsylvania, to Philip
9 A. and Karen Zimmerman Trahan; and
10 WHEREAS, a longtime member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church where
11 he served as president of the parish council and was a member of ACTS, he was humble and
12 always put the Lord first; and 
13 WHEREAS, Andy received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the
14 University of Louisiana at Monroe and was the owner and operator of Trahan Solutions; he
15 was also a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity; and 
16 WHEREAS, he was a music lover and never missed an opportunity to play the
17 drums; he also loved sports and was a natural on the tennis and basketball courts, and one
18 of his favorite places to visit was New Orleans as a dedicated member of the "Who Dat

1 Nation"; and
2 WHEREAS, Andy was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer over seven years ago
3 and made it his life's mission to better understand the disease so that he could help others;
4 and 
5 WHEREAS, he was a fierce lung cancer advocate and mentor and a charter member
6 of ALK Positive, a patient/caregiver advocacy and fundraising organization; he attended
7 numerous lung cancer conferences nationwide and lobbied on Capitol Hill; and he originated
8 a proposal for a Lung Cancer Awareness license plate which was enacted in 2016 as Act 296
9 after being introduced as House Bill 1010 by Representative Philip R. Devillier; and
10 WHEREAS, Andy tirelessly fought the stigma that lung cancer is always linked to
11 smoking and mentored newly diagnosed patients and caregivers worldwide, often being the
12 first point of contact for new patients; and 
13 WHEREAS, his family was precious to him, he was an amazing father whose
14 children were his greatest source of pride and joy, and he never missed an event that
15 involved his children; he was a dedicated husband who adored his wife; and he was a loyal
16 son, brother, uncle, and friend; and 
17 WHEREAS, Andy was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Ramon and Ann
18 Zimmerman; paternal grandparents, Glady and Mary Trahan; and mother-in-law, Theresa
19 Marsala; and
20 WHEREAS, survivors include his wife of almost seventeen years, Leslie Marsala
21 Trahan; children, Marsala Marie Trahan, Philip Andrew Trahan III, and Josephine Ann
22 Trahan; parents, Philip A. and Karen Zimmerman Trahan; brother, Joey Trahan (Sarah);
23 sister, Jennifer Trahan Loraso (Victor); father-in-law, Thomas Marsala; brothers-in-law,
24 Tommy Marsala (Kym) and Robert Marsala (Christina); sister-in-law, Catherine Stuckey
25 (Scott); nephews and nieces, Gemma Loraso, Thomas, Julia, and Charlie Marsala, Maddux
26 Marsala, Alex and Emory Rightsell, and Tessa and James Stuckey; and numerous aunts,
27 uncles, cousins, and godchildren; and
28 WHEREAS, Andy refused to let his diagnosis overshadow his many blessings in life;
29 he impacted so many lives, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. 
30 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby

1 express heartfelt condolences on the passing of Philip Andrew "Andy" Trahan Jr., and
2 posthumously commends him for his lung cancer advocacy and mentorship.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
4 Andy Trahan's wife, Leslie Marsala Trahan.
