SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 6

CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences upon the death Venoy Kinnaird.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Venoy
3 Kinnaird.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Legislature of
5 Louisiana has learned that Venoy Kinnaird died on June 5, 2020, at the age of seventy-five;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, he was a lifelong farmer and one of Louisiana's largest sweet potato
8 growers; and
9 WHEREAS, he prepared his famous purple hull pea soup for a pea cookin' for
10 governors, army generals, sheriffs, state lawmakers, and members of Congress for more than
11 thirty-five years; and
12 WHEREAS, Venoy Kinnaird lived a life of community service; he served for many
13 years on the board of commissioners of the Tensas Levee District Board, the Bastrop
14 Municipal Police and Fire Civil Service Board, and on the Louisiana Sweet Potato
15 Commission; and
16 WHEREAS, he was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam
17 and, because of this, and his love for this country, veteran causes were always important to
18 him; he was instrumental in creating the Morehouse Parish Veterans Memorial, located on

1 the courthouse square; it was his vision to create a monument to recognize all veterans of
2 Morehouse Parish who lost their lives defending their country; and
3 WHEREAS, he was a member of the Methodist Church; and
4 WHEREAS, Mr. Kinnaird was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Mildred
5 Kinnaird; brother, Tom Kinnaird; and brother-in-law, Harold Wooden; and
6 WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of fifty years, Pauline Kinnaird; daughters,
7 Jeana Kinnaird Jankowski and husband Chuck, Julie Kinnaird McCall and husband Chris,
8 Jennifer Kinnaird Stephenson and husband Kenneth; sisters, Reatagae Kinnaird Wooden,
9 Becky Kinnaird Johnson and husband Earnest, and Cindy Kinnaird Shockey; and
10 grandchildren, Baylee Jankowski, Cooper Kinnaird Stephenson, Katie McCall, Julian
11 Stephenson, and Emma McCall; and
12 WHEREAS, he was a truly dedicated public servant concerned with his farm, his
13 community, state, and nation, as well as a devoted family man who always had time for his
14 friends; and
15 WHEREAS, Venoy Kinnaird was an extraordinary man who shall forever be
16 remembered for his life's work and accomplishments.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
18 express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Venoy Kinnaird, does hereby
19 record for posterity his singular contributions and outstanding achievements and his long and
20 productive public service, and does hereby express enduring appreciation for the pride and
21 honor that this fine citizen will forever bring to his family and friends, to Tensas Parish, to
22 the state of Louisiana, and to the United States of America.
23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his
24 wife, Pauline Kinnaird.
