Expresses condolences upon the death of Glen Bonin. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Glen 3 Edward Bonin. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Legislature of 5 Louisiana learned of the passing of Glen Edward Bonin, a resident of Sulphur, Louisiana, 6 on May 31, 2020, at age eighty-nine; and 7 WHEREAS, Glenn Edward Bonin was born on September 23, 1930, in Lake Charles, 8 Louisiana; and 9 WHEREAS, he was a graduate of Lafayette High School and a Golden Glove boxer, 10 and attended USL (The University of Southwestern Louisiana), now UL, at Lafayette; and 11 WHEREAS, after marrying the love of his life, Georgia Bonin, they moved to 12 Sulphur where they raised their children; and 13 WHEREAS, he served in the United States National Guard for eight years; and 14 WHEREAS, Glen was the owner of Bonin Construction for over fifty years until his 15 retirement in 1991; and 16 WHEREAS, he was a Charter Member of the Maplewood-Hollywood Lions Club, 17 holding positions as President and Board Member; his love of the Lions Club brought him 18 to Louisiana Lions Club Crippled Children's Camp where he held positions as President, Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 9 SLS 201ES-42 ORIGINAL 1 among others, and received the Golden Star Staff Member Award; and received "Lion of the 2 Year" in 1970-1971 and 1986-1987; and 3 WHEREAS, Glen was instrumental in organizing the Sulphur High School Leo Club 4 as well as the national Leo Club where he served as an advisor for nine years; and 5 WHEREAS, he was the charter director of the Louisiana Lion's Eye Foundation in 6 New Orleans, Louisiana; and 7 WHEREAS, Glen was presented a life membership in the Maplewood-Hollywood 8 Lion's club on February 11, 1994, and received the Philanthropist of the Year award in 2012; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, Glen was also one of the founding members of Care Help of Sulphur 11 as well as the Community Thanksgiving Dinner; he was the First Father of the Year by the 12 Toreadors in 1968 at Sulphur High School, President of Sulphur High School Band Boosters, 13 Chairman of Moving and Building of Brimstone Museum, Chairman of West Calcasieu 14 Bi-Centennial, Charter President of the Brimstone Historical Museum, Board Member and 15 President of the West Calcasieu Chamber of Commerce, and member for fifty years, Board 16 Member of the Sulphur Industrial Board for six years, Board Member of the Chamber 17 Southwest from 1985-1987, Charter President of Louisiana Western Corridor, Inc. (Hwy 18 171), Board Member of the Calcasieu Parish Industrial Board from 1978-1980, Board 19 Member of Summit Hospital, and Board Member of the Sabine River Authority; and 20 WHEREAS, he received the Citizen of the Year award in 1987 and the Volunteer of 21 the Year award in 1999; and 22 WHEREAS, Glen was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for 23 over sixty years; and 24 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Hill and Rena Bonin; brother, 25 Hill Bonin Jr.; son-in-law, Tommy Jeansonne; and granddaughter, Mandy Jeansonne Poche'; 26 and 27 WHEREAS, Glen is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Georgia Bonin; 28 children, Billy J. Bonin and wife, Myra, Glenda Bonin Jeansonne, Lisa Bonin Schram and 29 husband Gus, and Michael R. Bonin and wife, Darlene Gautreaux Bonin; nine grandchildren; 30 eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Nada Bonin Landry; Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 9 SLS 201ES-42 ORIGINAL 1 special friend and caregiver, Tony Hogan; and a host of nieces and nephews, to cherish his 2 memory; and 3 WHEREAS, Glen Edward Bonin was a singular individual with a generous nature, 4 blessed with an abundance of determination and skills; he extended courtesy to all, and 5 leaves a rich and unique legacy of good works to his family, community, and state. 6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 7 express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Glen 8 Edward Bonin and does hereby acknowledge his lifelong commitment to his community, 9 state, and nation. 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his 11 wife, Georgia Bonin.
