HB 67 Original 2020 Second Extraordinary Session Crews
Abstract: Allows the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget (JLCB) to reduce appropriations
of sales tax dedications to a municipality, or the parish that contains the municipality, that
reduces the annual operating budget of its municipal police department.
Proposed law provides that if a municipal police department notifies JLCB that its annual operating
budget has been reduced and the committee determines the reduction will have a significant and
harmful effect on public safety, JLCB may reduce the appropriation of sales tax dedications to the
municipality or the parish containing the municipality by an amount proportionate to the amount of
reduction to the municipal police department.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
