HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 53

CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences on the death of Samuel Suel
1	A RESOLUTION
2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Samuel Suel.
3 WHEREAS, Samuel Suel was born on March 9, 1918, in Fullerton, Louisiana; and
4 WHEREAS, Mr. Suel volunteered and enlisted in the United States Army Air Force
5on October 28, 1942, to fight for his country during World War II; after completing basic
6training, he was assigned to the 2056th Quartermaster Unit and stationed at Will Rogers
7Field in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Suel's unit was deployed to England and attached to the 8th Air
9Force; he served in England from 1943 until July 1945; afterwards, his unit returned to the
10U.S. before being ordered to travel to Japan; however, after the dropping of the atomic
11bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, these orders were canceled; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Suel married Mary Watkins in July 1946, and together, they had
13five children; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Suel remained active in his community until his death; most 
15recently he was responsible for the care of the plants and raising the American flag at the
16Vernon Council on Aging; he also served as a deacon and president of the usher board at his
17church; and
18 WHEREAS, Mr. Suel leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Pamela Moore,
19Sammie Jackson, and Mercedes Bristow; two sons, Nelson Suel and Thomas Suel; two
20brothers, R.J. Beshears and Ben Beshears; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-
21grandchildren; and

1 WHEREAS, Mr. Suel stands among the many American heroes who fought in World
2War II to defend and preserve democracy; he will be deeply missed by all who knew and
3loved him.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Samuel
6Suel; does hereby offer sincere gratitude for Mr. Suel's service to his country during World
7War II; and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes that his family find comfort during
8this difficult time.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
10family of Samuel Suel.
