ENROLLED 2020 Second Extraordinary Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 54 BY REPRESENTATIVE CHARLES OWEN A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of James LaVerne Jeter. WHEREAS, Mr. Jeter was born on February 3, 1926, in Fullerton, Louisiana, to Ed and Edith Jeter; he passed away peacefully on October 19, 2020, at the age of ninety-four; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jeter was an exceptionally successful businessman in Leesville, Louisiana; he owned Jeter Oil Company and Jeter Apartments and was well known in Leesville and throughout Vernon Parish; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jeter was an admirably civic-minded individual; he was a proud member of the Leesville Lions Club for over fifty years and held several offices with the club, including president; he was also a regular attendee at the annual Lions Club Rodeo; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jeter was an experienced storyteller and local historian; he often entertained his family and friends with his stories from Jeter Town and the farm; his family raised corn, cotton, cattle, and hogs and also rode horses across rural Vernon Parish; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jeter was always a personable man; he was a proud member of "The Romeo Club", which met at McDonald's every Friday morning to have coffee and breakfast and to debate world issues; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jeter leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Gayle Caldwell, and her husband Jim; his beloved grandchildren, Laina Poleman, Lenny Roach, and Joel Caldwell, and his wife Amy; great-grandchildren, Dylan Poleman, Claire Poleman, Marlee Roach, Tripp Roach, Cameron Caldwell, Carter Caldwell, and Matthew Rodgers; and a host of other relatives and friends; he will be deeply missed. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 54 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of James LaVerne Jeter and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes that his family and friends find comfort during this difficult time.
