SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 34

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office for their work in
response to Hurricane Laura.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office for the assistance provided to Allen
3 Parish in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura.
4 WHEREAS, on August 27, 2020, Hurricane Laura struck southwest Louisiana as one
5 of the most powerful storms in the history of the United States with wind gusts up to one
6 hundred fifty miles per hour, leaving widespread destruction across the state; and
7 WHEREAS, Allen Parish Sheriff Doug Hebert made the request for extra patrol
8 vehicles given the number of residences and businesses without power and the limited
9 manpower he had to spare; and
10 WHEREAS, approximately twenty deputies from the Livingston Parish Sheriff's
11 Office made the one hundred sixty mile drive to Allen Parish following Hurricane Laura's
12 landfall; and
13 WHEREAS, they arrived prepared to perform whatever tasks were necessary to assist
14 the Allen Parish Sheriff's Office in recovering from the storm; and
15 WHEREAS, upon arrival the officers found trees were tossed down, power lines
16 were thrown across streets, and houses were flattened as Hurricane Laura swept through
17 Louisiana; and
18 WHEREAS, it is the extraordinary efforts of the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office

1 in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura that exemplify the true meaning of "protect and serve";
2 and
3 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of its communities,
4 and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like the
5 deputies of the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office who not only serve and protect the citizens
6 of Livingston Parish but also the citizens of the entire state of Louisiana when called upon
7 to do so.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
9 does hereby commend the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office for the assistance provided to
10 Allen Parish in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
12 sheriff of Livingston Parish.
