HB 114 Original	2020 Regular Session	Bagley
Abstract: Prohibits certain persons from serving as designees or appointees on a parish board of
election supervisors.
Present law creates a board of election supervisors in each parish to supervise preparation for and
the conduct of elections.
Present law provides that a parish board of election supervisors is composed of the registrar of
voters, the clerk of court, the chairman of the parish executive committee of each recognized
political party or his designee, and one member appointed by the governor. If the parish does not
have an executive committee of a recognized political party or there is a vacancy in the executive
committee's office of chairman, the chairman of the state central committee of that political party
may appoint a person to serve on the board.
Proposed law requires the governor's appointee to be chosen from a list of five nominees submitted
by the secretary of state. Proposed law provides that a designee or appointee shall not be an
employee or an immediate family member of the clerk of court or registrar of voters in the parish.
