Abstract:  Provides for parish offices of the Dept. of Children and Family Services and parish
Medicaid offices of the La. Dept. of Health.
Present law provides that there shall be in each parish of the state a parish office of the Department
of Children and Family Services (DCFS).  Provides that DCFS may unite two or more parishes and
form a district office.
Proposed law revises present law to provide all of the following:
(1)There shall be in each parish of the state a parish office of DCFS.
(2)DCFS may form district offices to support the operations of parish offices.
(3)DCFS may locate a parish office within either of the following:
(a)A parish health unit provided for in present law.
(b)A parish Medicaid office established pursuant to proposed law.
(4)The purposes of the DCFS parish offices shall be to facilitate local administration of state
child welfare functions, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Family
Independence Temporary Assistance Program, the Kinship Care Subsidy Program, and any
other program or service as determined by the secretary of the department.
Proposed law requires the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) to establish in each parish of the
state a parish Medicaid office.  Authorizes LDH to locate a parish Medicaid office within either of
the following:
(1)A parish health unit provided for in present law.
(2)A DCFS parish office provided for in present law and proposed law.
