[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 27 Original 2020 Regular Session Bagley Abstract: Eliminates the mandatory retirement age requirement for all judges statutorily. Present law provides that any judge who was in office on Dec. 31, 1974, and who reaches his mandatory retirement age within twelve months prior to the primary election at which his successor is to be elected, may serve through the end of the term to which he was elected. Proposed law eliminates the mandatory retirement age for judges. Effective Jan. 1, 2021, if the proposed amendment of Article V, Section 23 of the Constitution of La. contained in the Act which originated as House Bill No. of this 2020 R.S. of the Legislature is adopted at a statewide election and becomes effective.
