[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 288 Original 2020 Regular Session Mincey Abstract: Adds the clerk of court of Livingston Parish to the list of parishes exempt from having to obtain consent to purchase an automobile for office use and removes the limitation on the amount the clerk may use to purchase the automobile. Present law provides that the clerks of district court are authorized to purchase an automobile for office use after obtaining the consent of the governing authority of the parish. Present law provides that the clerks of the district courts in East Feliciana Parish, West Feliciana Parish, and St. Landry Parish shall be exempt from obtaining consent from the governing authority to purchase an automobile for office use. Proposed law retains present law and adds Livingston Parish to the list of clerks of the district courts who are exempt from having to obtain consent from the governing authority to purchase an automobile for office use. Present law provides that the clerk of court of Livingston Parish may purchase, out of any surplus in his salary fund, in an amount not to exceed $19,500, an additional automobile for office use. Such automobile and insurance therefor shall also be purchased in accordance with the provisions set forth in present law. Proposed law repeals the present law provision that limits the amount a clerk may use to purchase an additional automobile for office use. (Amends R.S. 13:783(D)(1)(a)(iii); Repeals R.S. 13:783(D)(5))
